  It is simply not possible.It's so natural and spontaneous and i don't think such screenplay will exist in any other part of the world.It is our lifestyle and the feelings portrayed there.And this will vary according to the culture.You may argue that the story was lifted,but again the source can be anything,as we have seen the same type of love stories previously(but with contrived portrayals).As for as 'Nayagan' it is inspired from,'The godfather' but carries the story of Varadaraja mudaliar,a dharavi gangster,but Nayagan has traces of the film 'Once Upon A time in America'.

  I have read that review already,there may be coincidences in both the movies,but not inspiration,and if Alaipaayudhe is an inspirational venture,the source can be our own tamil as it has many parents-opposing love stories.The strength of alai.. lies in its narrative style and the screenplay and it has nothing to do with "bare foot..".
  And don't mind that portals' reviews,that man always has the habit of saying something like this to show his intelligence(???).
  Remember 'alai..' was critically acclaimed and even it got nominated in several international film festivals with rave reviews.There inspirational or lifted ventures won't simply work,but 'alai..' has done it.It shows its originality.
  And i wonder what was so different in story line of 'Alai..'.Don't you feel you have watched similar stories before?The difference as i said is only in the narrative style and its purely maniratnam style.Maniratnam is not a guy like kamal who copies hollywood flicks(without acknowledging it)and say it is his own work.
