ARE OUR TAMIL FILMS TOO LONG?
Topic started by Gayathri Chow (@ 210.186.61.219) on Mon Mar 25 20:11:18 .
All times in EST +10:30 for IST.
For far too long Indian movies have been running for 2 hours or more.
Don't you feel that our movies can follow Hollywood, Chinese and the rest of the world and be for 90 minutes.
People are busy these days!!!!
Whatz your opinion?

I really agree with u. 90 minutes would be fine. we could do with less melodrama and sub plots and deal with the real issues in a movie.
for starters we could have only 2 to 3 really melodious song. why 6 to 7 we the songs dont fit in and are a pain to hear?

its time our films became shorter.
we people are not as free as our grandfathers and grandmas.
only a few songs are melodious but the rest mostly painful.
the fighting scenes are too long and unrealistic.
lets have short compact movies for a change.

Yeah too long!
Can dispense with lousy songs
and sickening comedy (good comedy is okei provided its necessary, and has a link to the main story)

Yes, we need to reduce the running of our movies
by atleast an Hour. This can be easily done removing all duet songs which is not worth watching. As there are running out ideas of Songs, comedy, stories & etc, Nashty things are integrated into our films.
While taking any new movie, please consider to reduce the film running time.
Who is going to take initiate ?

I keep wondering if any Tamilnadu producers or directors ever read our forum.
I would do good to have a movie with one main plot minus the crooks. Tamil mvie crooks tire us.

Just taking the songs and comedy out won't improve the situation. The main story itself has no credibility, so whatever you add or delete it is still the same old donkey. So, the focus has to switch from making "films" to "telling" stories.
It is possible to make the audience glued to the silver screen for 3 hrs if you have enough "acts" and if the "acts" makes sense. So basically, we are forgetting the art of telling stories which our grandma is sooo good at.

BTW, don't give credit to Hollywood or think they are superior. They are even worse, especially considering thier budget. On an average thier budget is 160 times our budget and they have the best talent available on the solar system. And still..STILL cannot hold audience for even 90 minutes. Every year only handful of films are worth watching one time(!) out of 4000 films produced every year. (Hollywood+Indie)
Infact, you can argue that the story-damaging virus originated from hollywood. Tamil filmdom just contracted it. (It is the case for most of countries)
When it comes to story telling, television has gained upper hand in both USA and India. Especially in last decade or so. So the theatrical film as we know now (as an art) might be soon dead in coming decades.
Bad for me :-)

A MOVIE MUST HOLD THE AUDIENCE'S INTEREST. HOW CAN ONE CONCENTRATE FOR 180 MINUTES.
90 MINUTES IS MORE THAN ENOUGH.

it is not a matter of how long the movie is produced (too long or too short)..it depends on the content...movies like nayagan, kuruthi punal ect...which have content and are worth watching..these movies are long as well...they have content...i agree unessesary songs could be avoided......another example would be latest kanathil muthamitaal...hope producers come out with movies focusing on the content rather than long time consuming crap movies (eg.citizen).

Cheekeegal:
You have lot of company including me.
But Movies are not about reality. They are never meant to be real. They are metamphor for our life. So, the problem is not what is being shown on the silver screen but how it is shown..meaning how it was filmed.
