Why there is no 'Velli Vizha' Felicitation for Ilaiyaraja?

Nanbargale,
Isai Gnani started his Thamizh film career with "Anna Kili" in 1975. 26
years have gone since then. I thought he would be honored with a Grand gala
function in the year 200 itself. But till this moment i haven't even heard
of any such plans from Thamizh Film Fraternity in particular, and Thamizh
Society in general.
It's time that we honor him, the Man who brought Renaissance to thamizh
music and an icon of Thamizhars, in a manner which befits a King, that he
is.

of course , senthamizhan ,
i agree with u, as i am a malayalle who became a fan of IR after listening his wonderful melodies.
but now a days it seems that the younger tamil generation has forgotten the great composer. from many of the postings in this forum , what i find is that some of them even hate his music. some people go on insulting him , saying that " the age of dabbangoothu music " is over in tamil. i don't know what they mean by this . are they saaying that IR has composed only such dabbangoothu ?? how shamelessly they r saying this. It is true that he is not giving that much number of hits now, but is it a right thing to underestimate a great MD , just because he is not
getting much hit films??
what i say is that no tamilian should forget what he has done for the tamil film music industry so far in his life time . The era will be depicted as the golden one in History. so , he should be honoured. Even if a function is not arranged for this, he should be honoured by the younger generation also in their minds.

Alex,
Thanks for responding...
Yeah! it's a shame that Thamizh people are not yet ready to honor this great person...
We could understand that AR Rahman caught the imagination of the younger generation, due to some catchy and wonderful tunes, fusing the best of world's music.
We would not want to start another one of those IR vs ARR bouts...But one fact can't be denied.. that Isai Gnani(as he was rightly called by Kalaignar), is the most precious thing that happened to Thamizh Music in the 20th century..
He rediscovered our wonderful treasures which were buried or lying unclaimed...
With regards to the fusion of Western Music, with Classical or Hindustani or whatever, i think he pioneered that a long time back...and i feel that he's created the most imaginative and creative music out of the pack..
His music would always be specially remembered and felt...and it touches the most intimate nerves in your 'self'... I love him for that!..
He's a cherished icon of the 'Thamizh Inam', and our people should realise this and whatever the differences in opinion in various other issues with regards to his personal outlook, it should not deter or make us ignore our duty to honor this Great Man.

Hello my friends,
I accept that "velli vizha" has to be celebrated for IR. But think about "mellisai mannar" M S Viswanathan who has been in the industry from 1952. It is going to be nearly 50 years.
Did anybody cared about that. Nor any national award was conferred to him. If U IR fans did'nt think about MSV then how the current ARR trend will think about IR ????????

yes , ofcourse Ram , u are correct
it is the general behaviour of people to forget the past when they come to a new world. Both MSV and IR have done their best for the tamil film Industry , which the younger generation is not ready to accept and approve ... all of them are now after the new trend set by the new comers like ARR and are looking down upon the great MDs of the past
