What is the highest amount you would pay a director? Any director?

Think of the most outrageous amount you can. Then, double it. You still won't get close to how much Pentafour Software, the latest entrant on the mega-producer block, is paying Shankar, whose latest hit, Mudhalvan, is now being remade in Hindi as Nayak with Anil Kapoor leading the cast.

Like, would you believe fifteen crore rupees? One hundred and fifty million?!

That's the amount Pentafour is paying Shankar, to direct a project starring Kamal Haasan (this, incidentally, being the second Shankar-Kamal pairing, after Indian).

And that makes the Tamil wizkid the highest paid director in the country today, by a mile and a half.

Pentafour, incidentally, has big plans, with a lineup of films including Bharati, the story of legendary Tamil poet Subramanya Bharati, with Marathi stage star Sayaji Shinde in the lead.

Then, there is Nilakaalam, a children's movie to be directed by Gandhi Krishna (whose Engineer, starring Arvind Swamy and Madhuri Dixit, has
been in the deep freeze for aeons now). Also a Singitham Srinivasa Rao film titled Little John.

One thing's for sure - they may be a fledgling company in the world of movies, but they sure mean business! And, seemingly, have very deep pockets.

  where will they recover the 15 crores?
  may be they will put 'patanam podi' Ad scrolling under the movie screen...
  
  If a movie is biggg hit like HAHK they can atmost earn 70-80 crores.. the chance is .5%.
  
  fair chance is earning like 30 cr. with chance of 40%

  I found it hard to believe too the reason is even big budget movies like Hey Ram and Indian costed around 18 crores and how can a company afford to pay 15 crores because I believe Shankar's Indian collected around 30-40 crores all over India.
  If they pay 15 crores for Shankar and then they have to pay Kamal and for music director. If you include everything the movie itself will cost around 30-35 crores. Can they recover money for sure.
  Even I have read this one from rediff.com, but honestly finding it difficult to believe.

  Shankar is a really lousy filmmaker. He has incidentally always had a couple of good technicians on the sets - but he hmself obviously knows nothing about filmmaking. Just what kind of a film is "JEANS"? It was embarrassing when they showed that on Singaporean TV - and it was also advertised everywhere as India's most expensive film. (that was a lie anyway). There was so much publicity that a Chinese reviewer went to check out the film - and came back with a very very embarrassing, and a very true review.
