Hello people,
One thing I still wonder abt is how was Nayagan sent to the Oscars while it has many shots that resembles “The Godfather.” How could they let them see the cheap imitation we’ve made?? Did they expect it to win an Oscar??

I feel nayagan was a land mark film.
Accepted there might be few inspired scenes, but that doesnt make anything bad.
Few pro points on why nayagan is a classic.
- Its more based on true story, than being a copy.
- It creates great atmosphere on a side of bombay which wasnt shown so well in hindi movies.
- Path breaking photography. It was talked about. Other than Balu mahendra all we saw in 80s we bright green & red colors in movies, this movie stuck to a soft blue tone.
- Great sets, look at the slum sets, look at the old style house kamal lives.
- Great costume and makeup, Munda baniyan, payjama, mustachless face, wow. Costume of heroine was also good.
- One of the very few period movies based around 60s ever made in india.
- Emotional aspects of the charecters are very well made out.
- prominenet supporting charecters - heroine, daughter, janakaraj, delhi & tinnu and others.
- Music!. we can talk about it all day.
- Screen play & dialogues was very differnt, though jumps from decade to decade, it kept the pace and flow.
- Stunts for the first time in tamil movies we saw cold blooded real fights ( may be inspired ).
The thing is it made us realise its painful, though the victim is a villan.
The good aspects overweighs the negative aspects easily.

But it already got its fill of oscars. So why give it again?
They rewarded it fully under the name Godfather, right.
