just back from watching Hey Ram. straightaway i can say it's a must-see. the first half is simply awesome, but the second doesn't quite live up to the initial impact. highlights are of course, IR's scintillating BGM (now we know what he was talking about when he said this would be a first in Indian cinema). and it's not just violins, he's used quite a bit of percussion, synthesiser, mesmerising flute...simply magnificent.
screenplay, dialogues, song picturisation, kamal's acting (especially in certain scenes like when Rani Mukherjee is raped and murdered), cinematography, sets, editing are all top notch. rest of the cast has also done a great job, with atul kulkarni coming out with flying colours.
kudos to Kamal for such a daring attempt. wish we had more like him.

i have no clue as to what you guys are rtying to say - my contention is Kamal has copied from movies most of the time - MagalirMattum (9 TO 5), Sathileelavathi (She-Devil) and insisted that he hasn't seen the movies at all.

There is a recent controversy that was raised in a tamil magazine that Hey Ram is a reproduction of a novel which was published in '75. The author has commented that kamal shoud have had the courtesy to have atleast informed him about this

Nanban, you wouldn't recognize a quality movie if it bit you on your ass. Why bother at all thinking about Hey Ram.
The movie is well above your intellectual capacities.

>>The movie is well above your intellectual capacities<<
so Kamal makes movies for whom?. Who is his trying to say and what is he trying to say?.
When a movie is not understandable to movie audience the movie fails then and there. Kamal is pretty much sure a low-intellect like me cannot understand the movie. The question is then Why make such a movie ?. Let me ask you why do you need to interpreter to explain out every scene. Kamal did this coz this this and that.. and all that crap. And funnily no interpreter has the right explanation for all he has done in the movie. Only kamal can give the right explanation all the movie scenes. Obvisiouly, he made a movie for himself, THE MOVIE which he alone can understand. Sure! Now he can watch his Much-hyped-boasted movie in his home theatre in Madras.
But hey, My $8 is not waste, because HeyRam taught me how not to make a flop movie. :-). Three cheers for Kamal.
More than that I hate Kamal boasting that he has made movie like Hollywood. He thinks he is a man from moon. As if there are no directors in India is the past/present/future who is better than him. You have to earn it by working hard. Not by brag about yourself and you film. He makes a first film as director(officially) and now he is top of the bunch. Hypemaster!. No one would have said anything if he says "I am a world class Actor". Coz We all know he is something. Look at what he is blessed Acting/dance/Fight/Sing(!!)/Body. Well you can say he worked hard on it to earn. Well! Well he has to do the same thing in *Directiion*.
Oh Boy! No hi fi stuff is relevant or can be appreciated if it doesn't fit with the story line.
Moviemaking is all about story telling. Remember when you tell a joke and nobody laughs at it, it doesn't mean that the joke is bad, obviously you have rendered it bad. I guess I got the point across.
He is a Great Actor/peronality and he blessed with great talents. I wish him good luck for this Next Best "attempt". I sincerely wish him that he will succeed coz I am fan of him. And I don't want him to sccrew his career like this. Why the hell did he see the film SPEED?????????.
Okay. A million dollar question is? Why does he never makes movie for Human being like me (leave out the intellectuals-- I am not one :-)).
He makes a song which is not for humans.
Idhu manitha kaadhalay Alla.. athaiyum thaandi.....Booo.. Boooo...Nee..tham
I would say Hey ram is not for humans too.
Idhu manitha paadamay Alla..Athaiyum thaandi....(Crap)anathu.
I repeat "Best Attempt; Most-hyped; Worst Movie"
Hey Rama..O Rama..

Oh I forget...
I guess Siva's info is right....Infact HeyRam title thanks Kalki- The magazine in which the 'Seed' story was publised. Pretty sure kalki got 'thanked' in right way. Shady Business.
No one will beleive me (Please don't he..he). I know a Tamil Teacher working fulllength on Marudanayagam. He is Tamil Pulavar in Coimbatore. I am pretty sure he will also be 'thanked' the right way with no offical credentials. He looks contended with that "Thanks".
T(h)anked,
