But you seem to assume that movies-gone-bad theory holds good only for Tamil films, which is certainly not correct. Infact, Hollywood is in worst shape than Tamil. Most of hollywood movies you mentioned are really a dud. And how much did they spent to produce that dud--40-60 millions dollars. I think they can do better than that with 40M budgets.
A trend will continue till another trend arrives, it is nature of business.
Tamil films suks because it lacks a story in the first place and then the storytelling suks not because it is based on love.(Young lovers)
If anything I would change, it would be
1. To give the power to the audience to reject bad movies outrightly without sugarcoating with cryptic refferals like "time-pass", "one-time", "the songs are good", "He is choo cute".
2. Incorporate Drama as subject in school.

the last time we saw a historical moviews were when Sivaji sir was acting films like karnan, veerapandiya katta boman, kapalotiya thamizhan,..etc.
