Well-Etched Characters in TFM:

Few movies have believable characters, each with his/her identity and portrayed with conviction, however small the role may be.
In my opinion, there haven't been many films with excellent characterisations of late. The last time I saw a movie where most characters were well-etched was Thevar Magan.
Be it Shivaji, Kamal, his brother, Gowtami, Revati, Nasser, and all the relatives, and last but not the least, Vadivelu... it was very well defined. No sketchy stuff here.
Any other movie(s)? Thanks
Neels

aruvi,
;)
Nammavar also had some interesting characters. All were very real and not larger-than-life, except for of course, one of the main characters, Karan. His was a very stereotyped role though. I loved the cameo by Nagesh in this film.
Udhirippookkal was one film which had interesting characterisations. Meendum Kokila, Johny, Kudumbam oru kadambam, Veedu and Kurudhippunal also had some 'real' characters..

I think we are forgetting Ajith here. He is very talented actor as well. The best part of him is he doesn't act. He is a normal self on movies and thats pretty cool.
He was very impressive in "Vaali". Him acting a double act of a good and villain character was very well shown. Many Malaysian liked the movie.

Ajith is no great shakes. I think after Vaali, he's voice modulations are the same. He can't dance either and his fight scenes have nothing to praise. He's been lucky to get a few good movies in his path, mercifully, after all those pathetic films he acted in. I don't understand why everyone thinks his anti-role in 'Vaali' was good. I didn't find anything exceptional.

Dear rythmn&beat girl, I agree with you to a certain extent whereby he got a few good movies in his path to upgrade his name, but on tha same time, you've got to realise that other actors would have over reacted in movies like "Amarkalam". He played an angry and disturbed character (deprived childhood) very well. Imagine Vijay doing this scene with his baby face....it would have been shitty wouldn't it? Mercy bocu & Salu!
By the way...I am into R&B as well. I heard Ajith in his real life has vast collection of Reggae and R&B

It is realy not fair to compare Kamal to Shivaji. Time is the factor. Shivaji is from the older Generation, give him a break. It is like comparing apples to oranges.

I think the best character in a tamil film should be the role which kamal did in "Gunaa"....
