Villain - Quite an ordinary fare!
Cast: Ajith, Kiran Rathod, Meena, Karunaas, Nasser, Kanna, Sujatha
Music: Vidyasagar
Producer: S. S. Chakravarthy
Screenplay and Direction: K.S.Ravikumar
Seems like Director K. S. Ravikumar gels better with Kamal and Rajini than the other heroes. His tie up with Ajith in VILLLAIN turns out to be quite ordinary.
After disastrous films like RED and RAJA, Ajith is back to tread beaten track. Though he does dual role very efficiently in this film, VILLAIN has nothing new to offer. One tends to compare his dual role in VAALI, which was a decent film. But in VILLAIN, what you see is an all rounder who performs everything - action, sentiment, and romance.
The film runs solely on trendy look that invoked in by technicians. And glamour doll Kiran Rathod adds more gloss to the film with her oomph. Shiva and Vishnu (both roles played by Ajith) are twins. Vishnu is slightly mentally challenged. But as Shiva sees trouble at his home, he runs away with his brother to a near by city. And Vishnu lands up in the hands of Sudaramurthy, a don of begger-ring.
In a confrontation with Sundaramoorthy, Vishnu becomes disabled person. Shiva leaves him in a hostel run by Sujatha. Meanwhile, Shiva takes up a job as a conductor. In the night, he robs off wealthy houses and supports institutions, which provide shelter to disabled persons. Soon, Sundaramoorthy becomes Chairman of the Institute for the Physically Handicapped. As expected, Sundaramoorthy's niece falls in love with Ajith. And in the gory climax, Ajith bashes all the goons including Sundaramoorthy.
Slick photography by Ashok-Murthy and trendy music by Vidyasagar makes this other than mediocre film watchable. Ajith's acting is okay. Kiran looks glamorous. Meena's role is tacky. In a bid to appease everyone - youth, women and mass - director K. S. Ravikumar missed the line. He should have been taken more care over script. A watchable film for the sheer sake of songs and sexy Kiran.
