hey can anyone tell me where S Janaki is and y isnt she singing anymore?..has she left singing in tamil movies?...i miss her!

  HI DURANI..JANAKI MAM IS LITTLE BIT AWAY FROM TAMIL CINE SONGS. I DONT KNOW ABOUT OTHER LANGUAGES. LIKE JANAKI MAM, SUSEELA MAM IS ALSO AWAY FROM US.   S. Janaki has sung the song 'Ey Asaindhaadum Kaatrukkum azhagaana poovukkum' with Unni Krishnan. Horrible !!!! There is a shiver in her voice now. Don't know why she still wants to sing. I am reminded of Latha Mangeshkar who sang in the movie "Noorie" after undergoing a throat operation for getting back her beautiful voice. But after the operation her voice had become worse and it is surprising that she did not realise it then.
  
  S. Janaki's best song till date, (i feel), is "Ooru sanam thoongiruchu"..
  
  One thing about her is she does not strain herself for singing in a high pitch. She does not even move her head. The only movement she makes while singing, is by her finger, tapping to the beat.

  Hai. Madhu.You have ample time to reply on threads. But...Its o.k.I think Mrs.Janaki was compelled to sing this song. Bcoz.Bharani the music director of the song, you mentioned, was working with Dr.IR. As Janaki's fan,Bharani made her to sing. But......I also felt he uncomfortablity[?] of Mrs.Janaki.in this song, like you. So you noticed it. May I tell an another song like this? Nenjinilay Nenjinilay (uyiray). Correct? Beautiful songs of Janaki mam are available. Even it can be listed out. Thousands of duets are there. Recently, as a second Innings{?} I started liking the song..
  VARUDHU VARUDHU ILMA KAATRU ..VANNA VASANTHA MALARGALAIDAM KETTU.IT IS FROM BRAHMMA I THINK.

  I am sorry. No.Please read the above. Madhu has also mentioned very correctly. It is bcoz.of age only. Even in VJ's programme I am able to feel the same, as in the case of Mrs.Janaki. We cant forget the Sendhoorapoovey..[won the National Award and a Golden disc ] Have you ever heard the song..Oru Vaanavil poley en vazhvilay vandhai, un paarvaiyal enai vendrai..this is from Kaatrinilay varum geetham..Janaki and Jayachandran have done wonders in this song.   I am a great fan of Mrs.S.Janaki (SJ) I have been listening to her from 1972 and i became her fan with the song Kuile Kavikuile from the movie Kavikuil. When i was in school, i sang this song (that time i had thin voice) in the NCC camp and i had so many fans after this song. From then i am following each and every song of hers. Oru Vanavil Pole is one of her best songs. My all time favourite is Puttam Pudu Kali from Alaigal Oivadhillai. It is unfortunate that this song didn't appear in the movie. This song would have won her a National award if it was part of the movie. She is a great singer and i should thank her for making me to forget all my worries by listening to her songs.

  Thanks for your nice posting in this thread. I am also a fan of Mrs.Janaki. Oru vanavil poley is a very lovely song. Like that we can mention even Oh.maney maney maney in Vellai Roja. Kaatril sellum endhan jeevan..(johny) Putham pudhu kaalai (alaigal oiyvadhillai)[as you said] Chendhoora poovey (16 vayadhiniley)lot of songs are there.

  Mrs.Janaki is a great singer who most of u might not be knowing also composed music for a telugu movie...a great person also..might be the only one who sung for young heroines to adolescent boy,also a little boy and at the same time for an old women...janaki mam's combination with spbalu and illayaraaja was the best..ever heard the songs from the sivaji ganesan --radha film----too heavenly! for a human..may be this generation isn't that lucky to listen heavenly music!

  I'm S Janaki's fans too. She has sing wonderful songs... Recently 2003 Deepavali, i saw a show in Astro Vanavil Malaysia, where they have invited S Janaki to perform on stage, for my surprise, the voice doesn't change at all (indoor studio). She sing in such a wonderful way. Because I saw one show in India, where they did the show for national something in chennai. She have sing with SPB Charan and Sreeni, and her voice like old lady voice, then i thought that she don't have the same voice anymore but when I saw the show last year............ her voice is fine.. truely fine.

  Janaki no doubt is a very versatile singer. I dont want to mention any particular song and to detail as good as all of her songs are esteem and august in nature..
  
  She has sung 'n' number of songs with a different folio's as kid's voice, patty's voice.. teens voice etc..
  
  PLS dont compare her with any singers.. name it.. suseela.. LR easwari.. jikki, jamuna rani.. latha mangeshkar..... can they sing in stage for nearly 6 hrs without takign any gap.. or without any male singer intervening.. ( to take rest.atleast between lyrics??? )... she sung that last year in chennai...
  
  she sung in many languages and in hindhi as usual becasue of latha patty... she was not brought up... the same thign happened to vani jayaram..

  a simply wonderful prog. many sweet songs. sendoora poove ,otagatha kattiko ,oruvan oruvan , andhimalai , kannan vandu padugiran, magali thingal . manay songs. it was damn good.
  highlight was singara velane. janaki said it went to many seniors then only came to her and got v.good name. she prasied IR ,ARR. but not MSV.
  SPB sang unakkena mele nindrai, namme orru what songs!! great evening.

  I miss her very much these days. She is the only singer whom I have such an attachment.
  
  After her, I'm never a fan of any singer; though I like singers like Harini, Bombay Jeyashree and Harish Ragavendra.
  
  I glad that she has been given such wonderful songs in the 80s. I feel there is no other singer who can do such justice. Whenever I listen to 'Rasave unna nambi' from Muthal Mariayathai, I always have wonder how she could deliver that song where such innocence oozes from each word.
