Why such a dearth of talent?

Tamil movies in particular, and Indian movies in general, seem to be just Milling the Same Old Grist..! There are only a handful of topics that are being dealt with:
1) love
2) revenge
3) heroism
4) slapstick comedies
This in turn, has led to sharp downfall in talent hunt.. No one is a good actor. In yesteryears, a lot of screenplays were drama based and that led to stalwarts like Sivaji Ganesan to grace the Silver Screen.. Now, Indian directors have literally ran out of steam. It is high time there is some fresh breath in the stinking pooool..
Can we discuss this, without gettin into the Chicken or Egg deadlock..(Popular Interest Vs Finer Interest)..?

I think that's because no one is interested in making movies. They are more interested in making money. 3 fight 4 paatu 5 comedy scene, Illaiyaraja or arrahman music padam odidumnu paarkaranga. There's no real involvement, we can sense it because lots of movies even lack continuity from one scene to another scene. As always with everything Indian, there has been no give back.
It was the drama stage of yester years that gave us sivaji, MGR, Balachander, Nagesh, VSRaghavan etc. Except for a few noone really cared about the stage dramas after they became famous and wealthy. Stage drama is the building block of any artist. In the USA even now we have broadway where live drama is enacted. Once you loose your foundation you loose everything.

Ra.,
Even now I think Kamal Hassan is doing his best and trying to give a different film without dealing the topics mentioned by u. But do u think that he had got enough support from the audience?
A very big NO!!.
So no one wants to lose money by trying different.

Karthik,
That is avery good point that u brought.. Lack of Stage Performances, is one reason. Just as people throng to go see Carnatic, BNatyams, Light Music.. nobody is really into live (serious) plays.
Krishnan, KH is again not a big thinker. Nor does he claim to be. He can act great, but he borrows from west. AND nothing wrong with that.. becoz, even in West (Hollywood), a lot of successful mega-hits and acclaimed movies are made out-of good and renowned novels... I guess, a part of reason for the dearth in the output is lack of separation of tasks.. The Story, Screenplay, and Dialogues are not separated usually and ONE ULTRA GENIUS (uhh!) takes the Onus of it all!!
Divide And Rule. That is one good lesson West has taught us..... and we fail to learn.
