Naveen lay in his bed, thinking. She was mad with him and it was his fault. It was the first time they had had a proper fight. It'd been a month and still she wasn't talking to him.
He couldn't sleep.
Maybe he'd been too harsh on her. Anyway, why should he care?
He was thankful that she didn't ask. If she had..... what then?
He shuddered.
He got up and switched on the light. It was no use. It was too much to hope for.
Ding Dong.
Someone was at the door. He looked at the clock. Midnight.
"Who's there?" he called.
"Naveen, it's Neha."
He was at the door in a flash.
"Neha, what the hell are you doing here?! It's midnight! You came all by yourself! You live three blocks away! Are you crazy?!"
"Look, Naveen, I had to come and see you.....!"
"Look, first come inside, you're going to freeze!"
Shivering she came in. He closed the door.
"Naveen, I'm so sorry," she started to cry, turning around," What was I thinking? I feel awful."
"No Neha. It's my fault. I shouldn't have been so harsh with you."
"No Naveen...."
"Look, come and sit down."
"I've really missed talking to you Naveen. I feel so....."
"Neha, let's just forget about this, OK?"
"Thanks Naveen," she smiled, her beautiful smile. She shivered again.
"You're cold. How did you come here without you're coat in December?!"
"I was in a rush, to see you."
"Why?"
She looked at him. He returned her gaze, hoping, wishing.
"Because...., because.....," she couldn't do it," Because I was."
"Oh."
Was that dissapointment in his voice? Was that fleeting expression on his face pain? Was he.....?
"Naveen," she touched him gently on the arm.
He felt a 100 electric shocks in that one touch.
"I have to go."
"So soon?"
Was that a wistfull note in his voice?
"Yes." She got up. Shocked at what she had done. Never has she so intimately touched him like that as she had done with her boyfriends.
"Wait one minute than"
He went upstairs and she waited. He returned with a large jacket.
"You might want to wear this, it's cold outside."
"Thanks."
"Well, see you than."
"See you."

As she walked down the street, she realised that she couldn't deny any longer what she had tried to over the years.
................................................
Naveen, stood, with his back to the door. His heart aching. She didn't love him, he was sure. He'd never have her.
................................................
Her walk turned into a run. She wouldn't accept it. The sobs came thick and fast.
To be continued......
