"Hello? Oh Vijay."
"Hi Aunty. Anjali ready-aa."
"Avaa epo thaan ready. Ulla vaa."
Vijay went in. He looked around him. A photo hung on the wall. Anjali's family photo. Smiling as always, he thought.
The photo always ammused him because it also showed a rather strict looking old man, Anjali's father. He was rather famous among the young men and referred to as "the dragon" because he guarded over his daughter so fiercely.
He didn't mind Vijay though. If anything he encouraged the friendship between Anji, as she was affectionately called, and Vijay. He and Vijay's father were childhood friends and it pleased him that their friendship should continue through their children.
"Looking at that old photo again?" Anjali stood laughing beside him.
"How long did you spend in front of the mirror today then? If it's over 40 minutes then you've beaten your record," said Vijay as a means of retaliation.Anji was about to answer back when,
"Aah, yenna inga sandaa?" Anji's father had entered the room without them realising.
"Vaanakam Aiyah," Vijay was a little in awe of the man before him.
"Mmm, college-uku time aiyutu, ponga. Anji...."
"Don't worry about me appa. Vijay's yennaku bodyguard mathiri."
Saying that they rushed out of the house. Vijay and Anji, glad to escape.
"He should really stop worrying about me," said Anji with a hint of irratation rising in her voice.
"Well, I don't blame him......"
"Meaning?"
"Well," Vijay started sheepishly,"Ok, lets put it this way. If you have a beautiful daughter, wouldn't you be overprotective of her as well?"
"I suppose so," then after a pause," Do you think I'm beautiful then. Have I got the chance of becoming the next Aishwarriya Rai?"
"And the ego thermometer goes up!"
"Why you..."
She chased after him. All the way to college.
