Love. An unforgettable experience in life. It can hit you anytime or anywhere.
Some people scoff at it and say it's a load of s**t, like our story's hero Mathan...........
"Half an hour. When will he learn about punctuality?" Ravi puffed.
"Yenna machan?"
"Dei velaya parada."
Mani glowered.
"Machan?"
"Yennada?"
"Ennaku oru chinna santhayam."
"Solli tholai."
"Illa, namma Mathan machan-uka oru girlfriend ondum illa......"
"Atthuka ippo yenna?"
"So is he......"
"Machan..... don't go there."
Mani grew silent again.
Ravi looked at his watch. Mathan had said he'd meet them at the bowling alley at 6pm. It was 6.40 now.
"Hey Mani, Ravi!"
Ravi looked around. Mathan saw his face.
"Yenna Ravi?"
"Do you know what the time is?"
"Dei, sorry Ravi. Traffic....."
"Oh, traffic. Is that what you're going to say to your girlfriend when she's waiting for you, traffic."
"Hey Ravi,this too much da."
"If he even get's a girfriend....." Mani muttered under his breath.
"I heard that," Mathan turned on him,"So what?"
"Mani....." Ravi tried to warn him.
"No, machan it's just that well you know, handsome guy, 26, should have got a girlfriend by now so people naturally think....."
"Mani."
"Yenna machan."
"Incha vaa."
Mani went to him.
"Koncham thirumbu."
Mani did. SLAP.
"Yen machan yenna aditchaneenga?"
"Appa ethaku oonaku inthu lollu."
"I tried to tell you," Ravi said shaking with suppresed laughter.
"Friends," Mathan started, his arms round them both as they walked inside, " Let me explain it to you. Ok, Kadhaal yenbathu?"
"It's an amazing feeling," said Ravi promptly, who had been seeing his love interest for 5 years now," It's a mutual respect. You share your hopes, your joys, your feelings together. When they cry, you cry, when they smile, you smile. When you're in love, you're prepared to do anything for your other half. They're are your world, your family and you theirs."
He finished this little outburst, satisfied.
"Sentimental b*ll s**t," said Mathan, quenching him," Dei, Mani, what do you say?"
"Machan, kadhal yenbathu mean late nights under the......."
"Ada chi," said Mathan, cuffing him round the ear.
"So what is love machan?" asked Ravi, much ruffled.
Mathan picked up a bowling ball.
"Friends, love does not exist. Mere infatuations, lust, these are but a few things that are referred to as love. It is a load of c**p made up by sentimental cases."
"So what about true love than?" said Ravi, not prepared to lose his battle.
"Your mother bringing you into this world, feeding you, caring for you. Your father working hard so that you will lead a fairly comfortable life. Your sister's, brother's who care for you. These are all true love. Because that love cannot be broken. Whereas pouring out all your affection for someone who doesn't reciprocate or is doing it for their own gain. That's not true love. It's not going to last."
Ravi stood speechless. Mathan looked up, pleased with himself as all the pins went down.
Mani tapped Ravi on the shoulder.
"Yennada?" said Ravi.
"Machan, does this mean Mathan machan is into incest?"
"Ada pavi.Unna thirundavai mudiyathu."
