Hi,
I've tried roasting papads/appalams in the microwave by applying little oil on them ;but they do not brown at all. Even after 5 mins. on full power they only become little harder & more cream in colour. Can anyone suggest the proper way to get the best results? Thanks in advance.

Hello Revathy,
I think that the papads you are using are the rice pappadams and they are bone dry.Why don't you have a little moisture in them ?
You see the papads or for that any food in micro needs water content to a degree to get cooked.Put your pappads for some time in folds of a wet/moist cloth and make them softer. Then try and keep in micro. You are sure to get a different result.Do let me know.

Hello Revathy,
Another thing I forgot to mention is, when you use micro for roasting pappads, it is better to use roasting them five to six at a time since the moisture content it very vital and the best way to roast would be placing on an aluminium foil and covering by foil.Maximum time of exposure should not be more than 60 seconds.

Typo
Please read as placing on an aluminium foil and not covering by foil.

Hello Hemantji,
Many thanks for your advice/info. Should i keep the papads side by side or one over the other? And is it O.K to use aluminium foil in the micro...doesn't it damage the oven?

Hello Revathy,
Pile up one on top of other. If you apply little oil or ghee too along with water, it will avoid pappads sticking to each other. On second thought, use ceremic plate to keep pappads.

I always fry my papad in the microwave since my family is 'health nuts' ;)
I palace 3 or 4 depending upon the size of the papads directly upon the turntable glass(no plates etc.) and heat them for 1mt.and 30 sec. and i flip and heat again say for another 1mt. or so depending on the color/doneness (so far, worked well with any types of papad even urud plain) DO NOT keep in the center they burn easily.
Pl. DO NOT use foil, u'll see sparks and set ur place on fire!!
