Hi Poojitha,
Yoga is a great thing to do if u know the right way to do. By profession I'm a physiotherapist and I teach Hatha yoga which is meant for physical fitness and I wish to learn the Yoga Nindra for mental relaxation. U can learn yoga from the books and there also many websites which show how to do it. But as a physiotherapist I must say that the asanas should be done in a right way and someone must show u the proper way to do them; if not it might be harmful to your body specially backbone. The best is to take some proper lessons in organised classes and then practise it home. If u have any further questions I shall for sure guide you.

Hi Poojitha,
I've learnt Yoga from Art Of Living when i was in India and i found it best for both physical and mental fitness. All our family members took the basic course and we felt very satisfied and attended the basic course as many times i could. Once you get a ID card after attending the basic course you can attend it as many times you want for free in any centre in any country.
It was so interesting and the final day was fun. The Basic course is 6 days - usually Tuesday through Sunday. 3 hours every weekday with longer sessions on the weekends. During the course period itself you can find many changes both physiclly and mentally, especially after undergoing Sudharsan Kriya. I have come across many poeple who had dramatic change in thier lifes with the help of Art Of Living. It helps you to,
1. Eliminates Stress
2. Improves memory and focus
3. Increases energy
4. Promotes physical, mental and emotional well-being - helping tackle various ailments like depression, asthma, high blood pressure etc.
Paves the way to better relationships - personal and professional.
My father is a heart patient and feels really better after taking the Yoga and he continues to do it everyday. You can feel as if your body is floating in the air when you do Yoga. Rather than learning from books, it's safe and good to learn personally. It's very simple to follow and it just take 25 minutes in morning and 15 minutes in evening to practice it. So look for the International centers to see if have in your place. Art of living is located in 140 countries. I'm pasting some info from the website and also the website address, so that everyone can know about it.
The Art of Living courses adapt ancient wisdom and yogic practices to enrich modern life. These courses offer practical methods to eliminate stress and enhance all aspects of individual life.
For every rhythm in the mind, there is a corresponding rhythm in the breath, for every rhythm in the breath there is a corresponding emotion. Mind & emotions can be handled by attending to the breath.
These courses teach us to use the Breath to bring our minds into the present moment, where joy, clarity and peace of mind reside.
The Art of Living Course - Part I: Is central to all the other courses offered by the foundation. A deeply introspective and fun course, the Art of Living Course is enjoyed by people of all backgrounds, cultures and traditions in over 140 countries.
The Course includes stretching exercises for improved circulation and relaxation.
Simple techniques which increase and balance the flow of energy in the body and guided meditation to calm and rejuvenate on all levels
Reveals time tested secrets of life that secure our health, happiness and success.
The Course integrates practical wisdom, ancient spiritual knowledge and health practices to increase individual well-being at all levels - including the physical, mental, and emotional.
The cornerstone of the course is the Sudarshan Kriya®, a powerful technique that purifies and rejuvenates both the mind and body. It is known to have beneficial effects on the physiology, nervous system, endocrine system and the immune system.
"Words cannot capture existence, but Silence can."
The Art of Living Course – Part II:
A residential course, held over 4-6 days, the Art of Living Part II course is about true relaxation. Here you will dive deeper into your self... and come back refreshed in body, mind and spirit.
It includes a combination of Silence, Sadhana (Meditation), Satsang (Celebration) and Seva (Service).
Silence takes you deeper into yourself, Sadhana builds Energy, Satsang maintains it (elevating consciousness) and finally this energy is lovingly channeled through Seva. It will leave you with a big smile that radiates all the way from within.
Hope this will help you to know better about Yoga.
And Janaki, you can also give it a try.
Good Luck!
