chow chow curry
chow chow is chayote squash, also called bangalore katrikai in chennai. there r lots of versions of making a good recipe from this vegetable like kuttu, curry, tovial, puting it in sambhar and mor khozumbu.
now for a start herez a very easy curry.
cut chow chow into peices of 1'' after peeling the skin. heat oil add mustard, whole red chillies, and curry leaves. allow it to splutter. add chow chow and fry for a min. add tumeric, salt and chilli powder 1tsp each and salt acc to taste.
cook till the vegetable is done. finally add coconut grated abt 2tsp and serve hot with rice and sambhar.
enjoy

Chow chow kootu .
Cook the cut pieces of Chow Chow with 3 to 4 pieces of garlic in 1/2 cup of water. Keep this aside (do not drain the water ).Grind 1 tbsp of coconut, 3 pinches of cumin (use your first three fingers to pinch ) and mix this with the cooked Chow chow. Keep it on the stove till the raw smell goes off(may be 3 to 4 minutes)Season it with mustard, red chilli and curry leaves.
This dish goes very well with kulambu (any kind)
Enjoy,

Okay. Chow chow is a vegitable properly known as chayote! I always thought it was a snack(namkeen) of some sort. These different recipes with chow chow aka chayote sound delicious.

Chow Chow MuLakushyam:
Remove skin and cut chow chow into small cubes and keep ready (two cups). Pressure cook one cup of tuvar dhal until it become very soft and soggy. In a separate vessel add the chowchow pieces and the dhal and cook well with enough water adding salt and turmeric powder (half teaspoon). During this time, grind half cup of coconut meat with a teaspoon of cumin seeds and three of four dried red chillies into a thick gravy. When the chow-chow pieces are cooked add in the coconut gravy and bring to boil. Take out from heat. In a dry kadaai pour two teaspoons of oil (preferably coconut oil) and heat. Add two teaspoons of mustard seeds and when they splutter, lower the heat and add three spoons of grated coconut and a some curry leaves. Saute the coconut gratings until they become pink and then add this mixture into the chow-chow curry.
