Periyar products to me, are simply the best from Kerala, here in U.S.A, we get a lot of Periyar products in the grocery store, and the pickles are very delicious. What about you guys, what do you think about Periyar brand products?

Mani, why are you pushing the Periyar brand so much? Are you its distributor? Or your relatives own Periyar brand? Come on. Your childish plugs will hurt you more than it helps.

Ravi,
I thought of enquiring whether these products contain onion (vengayam) as the basic ingredient. Then only it dawned on me that Periyar is a river in Kerala :-))

Ravi,
I hope you are not thinking under the terms of "Periyar" (and you know who I'm talking about!) :-):-)
Here in the U.S., there are different kinds of pickles that were sold in the Indian grocery stores.
Usually Eenaadu and Priya (Andhra pickles) have a different and distinct taste. Pataks.....I won't even go there! The usual brand of pickles that I used to buy were Palat (Kerala pickles). Then they started receiving Periyar pickles and products, and I must say....they are very tasty compared to other brands here.

Mani,
I used to buy Palat at the indian grocery shops in Santa Clara (there is one typically Malayali shop - with a name 'Coconut hills' or something like that). But 'Periyar'?
I am reminded of the old movie song 'periyare..periyare..parvatha nirayudE pani nErE..kulirum kondu kuNunki nadakkunna malayAli peNANu nE'.. :-)

mu,
I remember that song! Nalla paattu...illai?
The name Periyar was taken after the Periyar river in Kerala.
BTW, I kind of gave up on Palat....I'm fine with Periyar! ;-)

Well, you sounded a little too enthusiastic, so forgive me if I have falsely accused you of being an "agent".
Anyway I get maavadu pickle "thankam" brand. We usually get it in Nilgris store in madras and bring them over. A circle of thankam maavadu us in US always bring 5 or 6 packets on each trip and mail them to one another and keep each other well stocked.

Ravi,
Here we haven't got any Thamizh pickles, the main sellers come from Kerala, Andhra, and North India.
Did you try Periyar pickles though? Very delicious.
I usually get mango, and lime pickle.

Hi everyone! I finally found a store in new Jersey where I ordered Narasu's Vadu Mango. It is really good. It is a little bit on the pricey side $3.99 but my ABCD teen is not happy with the other brands. BTW, the store sells cheedai, murukku, etc which were also very good. Do a google search on thangam vadu mango to find the store. It is www.sisshopping.com i think.
