Hi!
Other than Kali and Thaalagakozhambu, what else does one serve on Thiruvaathira day?
Look forward to your responses!

Serve who? If serving the Lord - then ask the Lord what HE would like!

Right...Idiappam...I should have clarified...
I believe one fasts on Thiruvathira...and one's meals are light.
Every festival has it's food specialities, whether it's for the Lord or for the mere humans :-). I believe there's a regional variation in cuisine between Kerala and Tamil Nadu when it comes to Thiruvathira, and I wanted to know whether any one knew what exactly is prepared in Kerala....

In kerala a dish called 'Puzhuku' is prepared for Thiruvathira and served with 'Kali'!

thanks di!
what's the puzhuku made from? do you have any recipes?
also, puzhuku and kali are almost the same consistency...both semi solids...i vaguely remember something called "ethangadi chuduku"...have you heard of this?
my memories are of the festival are pretty hazy. i remember back in our tharavaadu, the women folk would wake up at the crack of dawn, and have a communal bath in the kolam...singing and "clapping the water"...and dancing the kaikottikkali...fasting...praying to lord shiva...chewing vettila...wearing lots of flowers, playing on the swing and all that.
unfortunately, i dont have a reference point anymore for these things, as well as special dishes which are prepared on these days. we do observe the pooja bit...and yes, prepare the kali and thalagakozhambu, but i would love to have the kerala version of the "menu" as well...and if we purchase a big house with a kolam and a swing, then the singing and dancing as well!!!
any "tradiontionalist" out there? or, can anyone refer back with their senior relatives and let me know?
many thanks!

Hi Vidya, Do you live in the USA? For some reason, my adhirasam doesn't come out well in the US. Would you mind sharing your recipe?
Thanks
D
