Hi everyone,
My kid is 2 months old and have been applying gingelly oil just like we do in India. Because of the oil or shampoo, not so sure, she has rashes, hence the dr. suggested me to use olive oil.
would like to know whether olive oil is that much good when compared to gingelly oil/coconut oil when comes to applying on the body. I heard that it causes heat to the body. Is that true?
Kindly any of u guys help me out in this regard..
thanks and bye

I can only advise you from an Aromatherapy standpoint. It is said that olive oil is cooling and anti-inflammatory. So I use this for preparations for things like arthritic joints.
You should look for "cold pressed" extra virgin olive oil, it is the first pressing of the olives and they are pressed without heat.

thanks for explaining and will see in the shop. Is it applicable even for the 2 month old kid?
Also, one more doubt, will olive oil make the complexion dark?

Dear R,
Don't know how true it is, but some people (such as my sister!) seem to believe that applying olive oil makes the child fairer. Funnily enough my niece is fair but how much of that is due to the olive oil her mother applied I don't know!

Hi Seetha,
Thanks and congratulations to u too!!
What u said is true. With my daughter, I dont know which is allergic because I was using moongdhal flour with turmeric(as our parents use to do), after the rashes has started coming, I stopped applying that, but continued with gingelly oil since I am very particular about the hair color.
Because applying olive oil in the hair-I dont know, but definitely applying soap or shampoo will not make the hair black, soon they will get gray, is it?
But my friend said that we can do trial and error after the third month, and she also did, succeeded with coconut oil.
For my first born son, I use to apply sesame oil for both head and body only in the summer and spring, not in winter. He is falling sick, funny! But that is the fact.
If u come across about anything useful, let me know. once again, thanks and bye..

Hi All,
I think any oil used in its natural form is good for the child's skin. It retains the moisture, keeps the skin soft.
You should though refrain from using too much of oil during hot weather when we all sweat during the normal day since this will block the pores of the baby and that could be the cause of the rashes.
Congratulations on the precious gift of the baby.

hi,just wanted to add a point.I have been using olive oil for applying on my body ever since a child.when i get sunburned and all, applying olive oil has reduced the effect!it makes u fairer.also if a lot of dirt is there on body,it will be washed away by using a mild soap after applying olive oil.i feel after bathing with olive oil,i used to feel warm on my body for several hours.this is good for people in cold climates.
regarding hair colour,if u want more black hair, try this,it works:
take coconut oil in a pan and heat it,add a large no. of washed and cleaned curry leaves to it.2 handful is reccommeneded.add 2 small black pepper also.this is to absorb any water present in oil.when all the water has spluttered, take out from heat.when it cools ,pour into bottles and use it ONLY on hair.

I have a niece who is 5 years old. Her body is covered with lots of tiny hair, more than a average child has. My sis -in -law baths her with kasturi manjal, but no difference. Is there any remedy,or herbal treatment? Thanks

About healthy hair,
I heard that Aruham Pull is very good. Get about 2 bunches of Aruham Pull wash well and dry it and cut in small peices and dry in hot sun adding a little c/n oil. till it becomes dark. (for about 5 - 7 days. Then add this to the pure coconut oil and store in dry bottle and use for the hair. I hear not only for growth of hair it prevents early greying.
