I just read through a health magazine that said that weight loss and fat loss are two different things. Even if you exercise by going to a Gym, it will reduce the water content in your body and lead to weight loss..The fat loss is different and it happens only when you are in diet or do some aerobics...
Normally all of us tend to eat yoghurt and milk products, does this accumulate lot of fat? I read that the refined flour (Maida) and Milk bread etc are also bad and accumulates fat. IT is better to take Wholemeal bread ...
Any idea what food we should avoid to prevent fat and cholestrol accumulation?
Sarah

When we take food,it is converted into calories and used up as energy for various activities.
But,often we all take more food than is needed.so the rest of the calories are stored as fat in our body.
Normally,a woman with 5'5 ht,130lbs and 25 yrs of age needs an average of 1500 cal.s from food daily.
If you want to lose weight, follow these guidelines:
1.find out your ideal weight depending on your age, sex, height and body frame(small, medium, large).
2.find out your present weight.
3.if your present weight is more than 5 kilos(10lbs approx) of your ideal weight range, you are overweight.
6.Now you need to spend more calories to reduce your weight. You can do this by walking, running, exercise, etc. No matter what type of exercise you do,the important thing is how many calories you burn.if you burn 500 cals a day by exercise, then for 1 week it adds upto 7 x 500=3500 cals.ie you will lose one pound in a week.bcoz 1lb=3500 cals.
7.brisk walking for one hour for a woman of above specifications(132lbs...)will cause abt 250 cal loss.Other exercises like aerobics, swimming, cycling, gym, other activities can also help.
8.but one more point.you will not lose weight if you compensate by eating more when u exercise!
To lose one pound, a person must burn 3,500 calories more than are consumed (500 calories per day over the course of a week). For example, reducing calories by 300 per day and increasing daily activity to burn off an additional 200 calories should result in a weight loss of one pound per week.
8.finally, all food around us are so filled with calories.be careful when we eat rich calorie food.dairy products should be taken only moderately.so are sweets and desserts, they are loaded with calories.watch out for fried foods, cheese, mayonnaise etc, high fat cakes and sweets, sweet drinks, carbonated drinks french friesetc etc are loaded with calories and fat.always read the label at the back of food products, they tell you how much calories and fat are present in the food per serving.

Thanks a lot Rakhi and all of you for your responses. I also read the following from a magazine.
__________________________
Sweets cause the body to store more fat-in this case in your generically pre-disposed areas [thighs, etc].
You need to replace the sweets with fresh fruits and vegetables [especially sweet red and yellow peppers].
Avoid refined flour [any bread or pasta made from white flour], white rice. Eat foods that are as unrefined as possible, brown rice, whole grain bread for example.
Drink at least 8 glasses [8 ounces] each of steam-distilled water or bottled water that is chlorine and fluoride free each day.
Walk whenever you can. Pick up a pedometer and wear it during the day. Your goal should be 3 miles of walking everyday-separate from your workout. This will increase your daily caloric expenditure by a minimum of 300 calories daily.
Remember, diet is the key. "It is far easier to avoid a 400 calorie desert than to exercise for 1 hour to burn it off"

Hi Jenin,
kodam puli is a variety of tamarind used in kerala, but the ripened korukkapuli comes under fruit variety which can be consumed raw.(It has a peculier smell)The shape looks alike but the shells are thicker in tamarind.

honey-lime surely helps to cleanse system.. maybe it'll in turn help to lose weight. as for korukkai puli, i think it's also called Kokum (used a lot in maharashtrian cooking) or Malabar puli.
