Hi,
I recently found out that I am pregnant. In US the doctor doesnt schedule an appointment before 7 weeks, so till then I am a bit confused about what precautions to take.
I know folic acid is very important, so what are the foods rich in it? I went through Hemantji's site.
I have orange juice, spinach and a lot of green vegtables.
Another thing I want to know is that if it is safe to travel during the first trimester? We were supposed to go to India, but will it be safe?
Please do suggest some vegtables, fruits that I should increase taking.

I think you should schedule an appointment for a pre-natal consultation asap. The doctor will give you pre-natal vitamins that have folic acid. Start taking them immediately. Of course be sure to eat sensibly and well-balanced.

Hi aarthi,
Congratulations to u and ur family.I have a girl baby who is 12 months old and i also stay in US.You can drink whole milk 2-3 times a day.You can eat wheat bread as it has lots of folic acid and other vit in it than regular bread. Please do not use any tablets or medicine now.u can take medications only which the doc recommends.avoid papaya, sesame seeds, pine apple and other foods which will produce more heat in ur body.Avoid big fishes as it has high mercury level. You can ask the doc whether its safe to fly to india.U have to walk once every hr during the flight.hope this helps.will write if i remember some more things.
till then take care

Hi Aarthi,
Congratulations.
Take lots of fruits, milk, greens and vegies.take sprouted dhal varieties, badam and dates everday.egg is also very good, but make sure u cook them properly. Donot eat processed food and instant kind of foods like maggie noodles. they are not at all good for u and ur baby. first 3 months are important as that is the time ur baby is developing.
Good luck.

congrats on this new addition who will be joining ur family soon...as everyone has said do take folic acid regularly...if u are non veg, try to avoid crabs ( i have a 1 year old son, when i was pregnant , lot of people advised me as i just love crabs...) try to have small meals at regular interval, make sure your body is having the required PROTEIn intake....most important ....keep a happy state of mind as mother 's health ( mental and physical) play important role in babay's overall development

Thanks a lot everyone.
I am trying to eat healthy stuff and follow the advice.
But from this week I have a lot of nausea I can only stand idlis and curd rice.
For some reason, I feel like having mor kuzhambu a lot. Anyway, thanks for the advice and concern. It really feels good when you are away from relatives.
