Sushmitha this is how i do gothsu:
Ingredients:
Eggplant (the big one)
green chillies:2(or as desired)
tomato:1
onion:1
tamarind(size of a small ball). Squeeze it in 2 cups of water
oil,mustard seeds,turmeric powder,salt
Evenly Oil the eggplant and roast it on a plain stove(NOT on any vessel). Turn the eggplant for every couple of minutes. When the eggplant is evenly roasted, remove it from the stove and allow it to cool.
Meanwhile chop the onions, tomato and chillies to small pieces.
peel the skin from the cooled eggplant and dispose it. Mash the inside pulp with a wooden spoon or karandi
Heat the kadai. Add about 2 spoons of oil and season it with mustard seeds, perungaiyam.
Add the chopped onion and fry until it turns soft.
Add the green chillies and tomato and fry for a while. Now add the mashed eggplant, salt and turmeric powder. Fry for a while.
Now add the tamarind water in instalments.
When it comes to a semi liquid consistency, switch off the stove. If desired coriander leaves can be added
Alternatively you can roast the eggplant in microwave. But you should be very careful bcoz on overheating the eggplant might burst. You will end up cleaning your microwave instead of tasting tasty ghotsu :)

Microwave hint: If you must "nuke" the eggplant, poke many holes in it with a fork first. This will allow a lot of steam to escape as it cooks, and will reduce the splatter mode effects *griN!*

hi, forgothsu u should not show brinjals in fire and mash, That we do only for thogayal. As Pojana priyan has said, it is to be made. You should add a teaspoon of methi powder and little jaggery at the end. Infact to get a very good flavour, we can roast finely cut sambar onions seperately in a pan and add at then end and garnish with coriander!
