Hi,
I actually have a question.People here have mentioned that they use Grinder and mixie for making the dosa flour.May be u would have got from India.I heard from one of my friend that Indian's in U.S. r using Osterizer Mixer(U.S Mixer) for making the flour.Does any of u seen people using that. Then let me know of the model exactly. And suggestions about buying that.
(Suggest me: since I can't get grinder's from India I am searching some mixer here which does the same job.So if u know of any appliance let me know)
Or
Do we get any Grinders or MIxie in U.S which work both in U.S and India.
Let me know.
Thank u,
Bye,
Radhika

Radhika, i would advice u not to get any mixie or grinder in 220v and the convert it into 110 using converter...as all my 3, mixie(sumeet), grinder(ultra) and converter broke....that too within 4 to 6 months ... now i am back to blender, so at least u don't do the same mistake... get 110 v itself.

Hi sreesha sudarsanam,
Do u know any such method to do good idlies. I am following this method of grinding urad dal and using rice from indian stores for dosai. Just to save my blender, i am following this method and also rice doesn't get grinded into a fine battery when i grind it using blender. I'll be happy if i can do idlies also in the same manner.
thanks,
vasanthi

Hi,
I have been using a $20 Osterizer to grind dosa/idli maavu for 3 1/2 yrs now. No problems until lately (less than a month), as the blade seems to heat up, esp while grinding the rice and the maavu sort of gets cooked on the blade and burns. Cleaning it is a whole other story. Is this because I'm running the blender for too long? Or will replacing the blade help? Please advise.

For Chethna's question:
Recipes are at http://innoconcepts.com/recipes.htm
For Divya's question: some people do cook idlies in the microwave - it is o.k. if you are in a hurry and do not mind about the taste. If you want the right taste you have to steam the idlies.
For RG's question:
The osterizer is not a heavy duty mixie and is not suited for most Indian preparations. It is just a blender so you can make juices or other easy to grind stuff. If you need to use for Indian cooking and want to have the right taste, then you have to buy the Indian appliances.

Andal,
RG says she has been making idli/dosa using an osterizer. She/He is Indian so obviously knows the taste of idli/dosa and obviously Osterizer seems to be giving the right taste :)
