Does anyone know this recipe? It has tuvar dal in it and chundakkai vathal... doesn't taste like the typical tamilnadu vatha kuzhambu. More like sambar but with some variation. Typically eaten with paruppu thogaiyal. I was wondering if someone knew about this one.

Yes. Fry the chundakkai, making sure that it does
not get burnt. (you will get a nice smell when it
is properly fried and it will not be completely black).
Cook tuvar dhal. It should be well cooked.
Heat some water in a pan, add the chundakkai. Put salt to taste. I also add tomato which makes it very very tasty, but I am not sure many people add tomato. Also, add tamarind extract. After some 10 or 15 minutes, add sambar powder (amount depends on how much water + dhal ). Mix well.
After about 5 to 10 minutes cooking over medium heat, add the cooked dhal and let it cook for another 5 minutes. Now, it is ready to be eaten with rice.

Yes, I did mean dry chundakka vathal. Also, I meant it should be deepfried in oil.
Thanks for suggesting the green chundakkai variation.
