Is urid dhal the same as urad dhal?

I want to make idlis - for the first time without using a ready-made product. But in the recipes I see that I need "urad dhal". In my store in Denmark (yes, Europe) they have "urid dhal", and I can't find any pictures of the two or figure out whether they are the same or not.
I am sure that someone here will know.

Hi Gretchen,
It is possible that people from some parts of India might call urad dhal as Urid dhal. Here is the link to the picture of the urad dhal you are looking for. This picture has the whole urad dhal or black gram dhal picture. What you get in the store is either broken ones or as it is in this picture. Hope this helps.

Hello Gretchen,
Black Gram is called different names in Indian languages.
Uzhunnu in Malayalam
Urud in Hindi
Here is a website that shows images of different pulses.

Thanks - they look completely different from the urid dhal that I bought in the store. But actually my idlis were quite good even using what seems to be the wrong kind of dhal. Now I know what to look for in the stores.

Linda, you mean curries with urad dhal and channe dhaal...
the dhaal itself is cultivated and not made as a recipe!

URAD/URID DHAL/MUNGO BEANS IS GOOD SOURCE OF OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS.
What are the benefits of this Omega-3 Fatty Acids.
Omega-3 fatty acids are good for the heart. The omega-3 oils increase the concentrations of good cholesterol (high density lipoproteins, HDL) while decreasing the concentrations of bad cholesterol (triglycerides). In addition, eating omega-3-rich food will result in a moderate decrease in total cholesterol level.
Furthermore, omega-3 oils also protect the heart by preventing blood clots or keeping other fats from injuring the arterial walls. They not only relax arteries but also help to decrease constriction of arteries and thickening of blood.
Omega-3 Polyunsaturates Speed Up Gastric Flow
Meals containing omega-3 polyunsaturates reduce the time taken for the stomach to empty.
Eating 200 g lower blood pressure (BP). Therefore, omega-3 can benefit patients with borderline high blood pressure. Omega-3 oils also effectively prevent hypertension in cardiac patients after transplantation.
Omega-3 fatty acids inhibit the action of inflammatory prostaglandins and leukotrienes, they can help control arthritis symptoms. It has shown to decrease abdominal cramping, diarrhea, and pain associated with Crohn's disease. Taking high dose omega-3 fatty acids can reduce inflammation of the airways and reduce asthma attacks
Omega-3 fats may be effective in treating this autoimmune disease in which kidney function fails over time with few treatment options available
According to some studies, many common mental disorders, such as depression, bipolar (manic-depression), attention-deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), anxiety, or schizophrenia, may be triggered by deficiencies of omega-3 fatty acids
Omega-3 fatty acids inhibit tumor growth when injected into animals. Flaxseed oil, which is a plant source of omega-3 fatty acids, has been shown to prevent cancer of the breast, colon and prostate.
