As per my knowledge, steam idlis as usual for 10 to 15 mts depending on ur gas stove. Cool, remove and slice the idlis into 4 pieces(if it is a big idly), fry the same in hot oil. Can serve as it is with ketchup or put it in some sambhar. Tastes really good!!

Try this..
Steam idlies, cut them into four pieces and fry them in oil. Heat some oil in a pan and fry onion till golden brown. Add tomatoes and fry it until it gets soft. Add chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, curry leaves, coriander leaves, salt and cook it completely by sprinkling water. Once the mixture is cooked, add the fried idlies and mix them thourouly in the onion/tomato mixture. Turn off the stove and there you go fried idli is ready.

Cut up idlis, in a little oil thaliku ,kadugu, uluthamparupu, kadala parupu, dried red chili, curry leaves ; fry onions till golden brown... add salt to taste; then add idlis and thosai polagai podi, and mix throughly....serve hot. also works well as quick Indian breakfast using frozen idlis, after steaming a few mins in a microwave steamer
