iyappan,
kavi nayam arumai.
kadhal enbadu veerargal unarvO?
see the prob is the rejection. When one is prepared to take the result of his endeavour then there is no question of fear. Just say ur love, accept the rejection or the acceptance.
and regarding u condemning val day..
kadhal enbadu oru naal kootha??
well,
you do celebrate ur parent's birthday, get them gifts, or prostrate before them, say u love them etc.
Does it mean u DONT LOVE THEM OTHER DAYS?
u celebrate ur wedding anniversary
does it mean u are NOT IN LOVE, OR DONT CONSIDER URSELF WEDDED OTHER DAYS.
The day is just a symbolic representation of love from human point of view. ( not only girl or boy friends...ur dad or mom can u b ur valentine too)
remember valentine is a saint.

It beats me how birthdays & anniversaries become equal to Valentine's Day. Celebrating a certain- a confirmedly sure event (birthdays & anniversaries etc) is a genuine merrymaking. Being in love( believing to be in love)needs no special public celebration. Consummate love in the civilised form of wedding & go ahead to celebrate it. When one is serious about one's feelings of love, fear of rejection & yearning for reciprocation is bound to be strong. Today this seriousness is sadly lacking.Just passing the time pleasantly for sometime without long-term( more properly, life-time) relationship considerations does not become the standard of intellectual human beings who are above bestial level.

Hear! Hear! The preacher hath rightfully spoken....
Being in love (believing to be in love)... no special celebration? Why not?? Public, yes I can relate, but if private why not? And what if some unfortunate spouse forgot some wretched birthday? is this not a convenient surrogate event to make up?
Besides in this part of the world where there is such a dearth of festivals such as Gokulashtami,
Ganesh Chaturthi, Pongal etc etc...here is an opportunity to eat well and rejoice.
As for that bit about lack of seriousness today- O' Please!! With stress ridden lifestyle rampant today a Valentine event is just what we need. I agree this is not the Sanga Kala era (O I was around then...)but give folks a break and let them have their fun.. lets not be such a stick in the mud and be so moralistic about it.As for intellectual standards, Ms Pavalamani, (or is it Master/Mister?)you are singularly unique- For,I prefer to be a beast. :-))
For the benefit of others, here are a couple of links about the origins of this historical event, which has unfortunately, evolved to becoming a commercial one today.

"the standard of intellectual human beings who are above bestial level."<<<<<<<<<<
intellectual human beings goes to dogs in (now thats beastial level)
in showing jealousy
pride
being rude
mortal killing
hooliganism
treachery
castism
AND CELEBRATING SOME VALENTINE;S DAY MAKES THEM A BEAST
funny!
valentine's day is not just for unmarried romoes and juliets, its for even others who need to share and care for their near and dear ones.
as for TRUE LOVE NOT BEING FOUND...
nothing is true in this adulterated world. IF u keep cribbing, there is never an end.
Look at the positive side of anything.
I GOT 10 ROSES FOR VAL APART FROM MY HUSBAND
5 from my lady friends (neighbours)
3 from young students whom i take tutions
2 from kids around (3 to 4 years)
and i think every one of them mean..that they care for me..
AND IF THIS MAKES IT BEASTLY...i am happy to be a beast.
Every individual, should have his limitations to what he can and cant do. IF they are within this moral limits, showring ur care, love, admiration ETC
DOES NOTTT MAKE ONE BEASTLY.
and i still find true love
amongst
couples
lovers
parents and children
neighbours
U JUST NEED TO LOOK AROUND
Seek and u shall get
