Niyogi brahmins of Andhra have had a great effect on the Deccan History. They also had & still have a major say in Modern Indian political scenario(ref. S.radhakrishnan, VV Giri, KL Rao, T.prakasam, PV narasimha Rao etc). Their contribution as Administrators, Literateurs & Soldiers (Gen KV Krishna Rao for the uninitiated is a Niyogi brahmin) is vast. Many references indicate 1. a possible migration of these people from from North (Ahichhtram - Himalayas) as an exodus of brahmins of 6000 gotras, as indicated by the sect name "Aruvela Niyogis" - aruvela in Telugu menaning six thousand, 2. A possible migration of Tamil brahmins under Trilochana pallava during Pallava regime in Coastal Andhra & 3. A definite Andhra/Maharashtrian lineage of Niyogi brahmins or more generally Andhra brahmins. (quite a few house names of Andhra brahmins, particularly niyogis have the maharashtrian flavor eg. Sabnavis, Khasnavis, Parashurampant(ula), Madnapant(ula) etc. However there is no single reference discussing the origin of Niyogi Brahmins of Andhra. I welcome more inputs on the origins of Niyogi brahmins of Andhra.
