The reports and studies say that the Keralites have attained 100% literacy. But we are not self sufficient. We still depend on Tamil Nadu for fresh vegetables. Even our Onam celebrations are fully depend on Tamil Nadu trucks. Kerala's lion part of the economy come from the Gulf states. There are so many Keralites outside India who are prepared to invest in business and industries. But they are not willing to invest in Kerala. Who is to blame for it? Have the political system at present in Kerala should be revived ?

  It is true that many Keralites go to other states for technical and higher education. But except for those going for the few highly elite institutions like IITs and IIMs, others go outside as they don’t get admission in Kearla. It means:-
  (1). There are not sufficient institutions in Kerala to accommodate all the aspirants.
  (2) Kerala do not have prestigious Education Institutions (mainly funded by Center Govt.).
  
  It is true that the student and youth wings of Marxist party have opposed sanctioning of professional colleges in private sector. But lots of Engineering colleges were started in the last decade in private and co-operative sector. One thing may be noted in this context that none of the private institutions have fared better than the Govt. colleges.
  The present UDF Govt. after coming to power has given NOC for all applied for medical college. But as I remember, all of them except one were rejected during initial screening by the competent authority.
  To summarize, Kerala should get a few prestigious Higher education Institutions funded by Govt. of India ( IIT,IIM etc) and Kerala Govt. should find resources for running the Institutions already started and to start a few more Medical colleges.

  Is it because we don't have enough instituions or they are not good enough to get an admission in some colleges in kerala? I think there are at least 4 engineering colleges/district in kerala now.. And they are going to start another 82 next year.. Do we need that many engg colleges?? Is this going to increase or decrease the quality of education???
  
  I not entirely against private participation in the education sector.. But there has to be some government control over them.. Giving engg and medical colleges to all those who are applying is not going to solve any Kerala's problems.. Most of the people coming forward to start an engg/med. college are having just business in mind.. nothing else..

  What Kerala needs is manners! For a state that claims to have received 100% literacy, the people of Kerala acts mostly without manners like barabarians.
  
  First, they should not spit any where as they please. Second, they should not extricate themselves on the side of the road; Third, they should not act like African aborigines by staring at others.
  
  Fourth, in the political arena, all schools and colleges must be free of political influence. All student wings of the political parties must be banned. Only adults over the age of 21 should be allowed in political parties.
  
  Finally, only adults over the age of 21 should be allowed to drink and smoke.
  
  They call Kerala as God's own country, my foot!

  i strictly join with the openions made by vibhu and mandoose .what we requir is quality education.Its a foolish concept that all the applicant should get higher esucat.first thing that the Govt.has to do is improve the quality of higher education than increasing the number.most of the newly fouded higher educ: institutions are not having even a good classroom or qualified teachers because that is the basic.

  I don't know where from you got this information...I believe your must be from a neighbouring state who doesn't like kerala and its people. Unfortunately you are wrong..As it says "God's own Country"..yes it is... Kerala people are having high standard of life compared to any other indian state. Give "Kerala Model" in any search engine. It's one of the interesting topics for many Europeon countries. Becuase we have same life standard as theirs...So don't open your ignorance in such open forums..stay away...
