Old films and other like songs are more good songs than new.You can find lot of good songs by
SANGEETHACHAKRAVARTHY jayachandran in old collections.

  Malayalam actors in those days could do anything and people accepted it.
  
  Just observe his acting and thats what it is ACTING whereas acting is supposed to be original and natural.
  Also in those days vulgarity was at peak.
  U can see Jayabharathi, Seema and co. wearing mini skirts and people goin crazy bout it. Well myself and my friends get erection while watching them.
  Thats not Acting, it just body exposure to attract crowd.
  Prem nazir and team were plain lucky to kiss and hold them.
  Thats what it was in those days, only Fantasies.
  
  Fortunately things changed and we have good directors like Sathyan Anthikad, Priyadarshan, Sibi Malayil etc.
  
  Just observe there movies.
  It looks so real that u can actually correlate yourself with those characters.
  An unemployed Mohanlal struggling to find job and yet the comedy situations arising out of it is indeed a pleasure and privilege to watch.
  Its MUCH MUCH better than watching Prem nazir fiddling with mini skirted Jayabharathy or fighting scene showing him doin somersaults and defeating 10 tough opponents. IT JUST SUCKS.
  
  Well, tradition says that old was good.
  But the fact is old malayalam movies were rather X rated vulgar movies.

  Nothing these people mohan lal or mammootty don't know how to act.PREM NAZIR and SATHYAN were very good actors.The people you are stressing upon SATHYAN ANTHIKKAD and SIBI are just suckers.They did few movies acceptable but didn't made good singer Sri JAYACHANDRAN to sing.
  
  Old movies are good in that aspect.There were good songs because GANACHAKRAVARTHY was there for singing.Just now also he came back so that we have luck to get mesmerising melodies from magician of music world!

  The people you mention mohan lal is a kid in acting.Sri PJ's voice is best suitable for him.The movies were good if there was a song by Sri PJ.Now there is a PRATHISANDHI in cinefield.

  Jayachandran is the real ganagandharvan.I will call sri JAYACHANDRAN as the GANACHAKRAVARTHY.His talent is unmatchable to any other singer.It is shameful to compare him with another singer who made few hit songs but luckily recieved more awards.Jayachandran is the singer who can sing all types of songs.
  
  He is known as the "ANASHWARA GAYAKAN" since he was the person who developed our malayalam playback singing branch so rapidly.How can one remember a singer who went for carnatic music development when that singer was able to improve our playback singing?Now there are people who praises such singers too.Jayachandran is among the legends in malayalam playback singing history.

  Jayachandran is always a topic of great interest to me.He sung songs which were rejected by singer yeshudas and made most hits (successful songs) in malayalam.Malayalam films are known top of the Indian films only because of this great playback singer was singing.
  
  The memories of Sri Jayachandran include the days he used to go for CHAKYAR KOOTH and KATHAKALI.He was a singer for ASHTAPATHI in temples at IRINJALAKKUDA.He was good in all VADYAMS.He didn't came to playback singing for becoming famous in that field.SANGEETHAM is like sadhana/upasana for Sri Jayachandran.
  
  Praveen you are correct.He virtually reduced the natural sangeetham in many songs.Here if iam writing a list,it will fill this full forum.In simple words let me make it clear.Yesudas sung good songs.He is a good singer (Just good that s all) but never comparable with Sri PJ who is like a god in music world.

  Sree p jayachandran sung his first song in HINDI language in 1972 for the film "PARICHAY".The song was an immediate hit.
  
  He sung in the film "yadon ki barat" which was kishore kumar's leading film along with Smt ASHA BHOSLE,which was not famous but a very good song.He sung as TRACK ARTIST in the film for Sree KISHORE KUMAR.The voice was better than kishoreji,but was discarded since jayachandran was junior to the singer.
  
  He sung with mohammed rafi in 16 films.There was a song which was left for Sree jayachandran to sing.
  
  The songs from various films from 1970-1980 are famous but not given publicity.Kya mein sundar hun,Pyara dushman,Hum kisi se kam nahin (OLD FILM) were hits by the effort of/magic of the melodious singer.
  
  The songs in films "NAUKAR',"JAI MATA JI","MELA","HIRA MOTI","RAKHI""HUM TUM","KASAM","KHILAUNA","MUMBAI SE","IDUL FITHAR","JUGNU","CHUPA RUSTUM","KUDRAT","PURVARISH","SUHAAG RAAT" ,"CHOTA MALIK","DURD",e"ZAMEER","PHANDE BAAZ","SOORAJ KAHUN YA CHANDA" etc can a hindi film lover can forgetso easily?
  
  The great singer sung in about 90 films and 200 songs in various films.He was not regular in hindi singing,but stopped singing after yesudas's CHIT CHOR came up in hindi.
  
  Yesudasfans accuse that kishore kumar was the person behind threatening him,after CHIT CHOR became a hit.But it is not truth.
  
  After a break he came back in hindi singing by singing in various films like HUM,MEHERBAAN,SHAHR,RUNG,ANADI,KRIPA KARO PRABHU,SUHAAG,CHORI,PREM,KANYA,KARAN ARJUN,ANKHEIN etc.
  But for past 2-3 years he is not regularly singing in hindi.He came back to malayalam playback singing may be the reason.
  
  He know all famous singers very well.Smt LATHA and Smt ASHA BHOSLE considers him like a young brother.Kishore,Rafiji appreciated his singing talent where he does it like magic...so easily.
  
  He used to give all information regarding good playback singing to youngsters like KUMAR SANU,UDIT and SONU.They themselves are good friends consider Sree PJ as their respected "GURU".This year also when UDIT got NATIONAL AWARD,he called Sree PJ to get his blessings.
  
  Abhijeet is not a student of Sree PJ.But,the three singers has a complaint about Sree PJ that their guru is not able to do well in HINDUSTANI music.They three agree that there is no other person in India who can sing better than Sri PJ.
  
  Sree Pj is more close to KUMAR SANU than anyone else.They regularly make discussions on hindi songs and music each other.
  
  Sree PJ is satisfied with his performance in HINDI.He is singing nowadays mostly in his mother-tongue MALAYALAM.
  
  He can't be compared with RAFI or KISHORE KUMAR iN HINDI,but together he is the best singer iN India

  lease understand,try to understand what was the condition of Sri JAYACHANDRAN in childhood.I am not among those people who makes heroes poor when they were in childhood.
  
  Sri JAYACHANDRAN was searching for a job after somehow completing Bsc in chemistry from Christ college Irinjalakkuta.I will tell you the story,please listen what happened then.Listen carefully.
  
  Even for getting the money for bus fare,he has to do the same job.The people who degrade him here were not there for helping him in those occassions.He was belonging to a royal family...hence doing job like ordinary people will make all to
  turn against him.But he worked day and night...with his inborn talent.Now also i can't agree reservation based on caste.It must be based on income.
  
  His elder brother Sri sudhakaran was both a classical singer and mrudungum artist left his home and stayed at chennai.But.his effort was not sufficient for his family to live like all..jayachandran has to struggle.
  
  In school days,he got first in youth festival where yeshudas was also a competitor.But Sri JAYACHANDRAN was the first.Yeshudas was first in classicals,and Sri JAYACHANDRAN was first in mrudungum.He used to sing kathakali
  sangeetham and read chenda,ashtapadhi,chakyar kooth,keli,all musical instruments with impressive performance in light music.But after this performance, since music was not that popular as today,there was severe money problem at
  home.He has to leave for chennai.
  
  He met his elder brother,who was planning to come back to native since there was little chance for his music.But before leaving.he introduced Sri JAYACHANDRAN to yeshudas who was most famous (best too) in malayalam.Yeshudas
  used to go for classical concerts during those days.
  
  Sri JAYACHANDRAN used to meet yeshudas regularly.But yeshudas used to tell fun,his ideologies about music,big big things.But Sri JAYACHANDRAN wanted just some chances atleast in mrudungum for getting his bread.But
  yeshudas,since knew Sri JAYACHANDRAN sung better than him in youth festival,made him to wander.
  
  Sri JAYACHANDRAN made a habit to see yeshudas and come back for getting a chance as per his respected brother's precious advice.Meanwhile,his pennies with him reduced day by day.He informed his brother after 2 months his poor
  condition.He wanted a chance...but never wanted to cheat his "dasettan" as he used to call him.6 months passed without any use.He has to do work like an ordinary man at chennai in those days,he informed yeshudas his condition,but didn't
  helped him in any way.He was in big trouble.
  
  One day Sri JAYACHANDRAN was sitting in front of yeshudas's house(not kjy's own,under rent) and was fully depressed at his condition.Yeshudas was inside eating food.One karnataka music director came there.He made yeshudas to
  sing in 7 films and wanted to make yeshudas sing for the eighth film.
  Sri JAYACHANDRAN told him,yeshudas will come after eating food.The karnataka music director asked Sri JAYACHANDRAN why he was sitting there.He answered politely that he was waiting for a chance to read mrudungum in any
  classical concerts.He was impressed by the young man,understood his condition(Sri JAYACHANDRAN's condition) and promised to give a chance in his friend's classical concert.But he replied he must get the permission from
  yeshudas.When yeshudas came,he saw both talking.When Sri JAYACHANDRAN presented this in front of yeshudas,he was angry telling,"I'll give you chance,why to go with him?".But by the blessings of GOD,Sri JAYACHANDRAN did
  mrudungum well and the karnataka music director understood his performance in light music.Hence,in the eighth film in which he did music direction,there were only Sri JAYACHANDRAN's songs.There was no even a single song by
  yeshudas!!!!!He was understanding,yeshudas sings,but not even comparable to Sri JAYACHANDRAN's talent.You can guess how happy Sri JAYACHANDRAN would be while getting his first penny in music...But in malayalam everyone
  was going behind yeshudas.
  
  In a stage programme at chennai,in which many sung (it was a local programme), accidentally one director vincent and music director Sri CHIDAMBARANATH heard Sri JAYACHANDRAN singing in stage.They requested famous music
  director Sri DEVARAJAN to try out this singer,who sung so well.
  Devarajan initially didn't agree but later made Sri JAYACHANDRAN to sing.It was a chnage in trend of MALAYALAM FILM MUSIC...The great MANJALAYIL MUNGITHORTHI....came into existance.It was differnt from yeshudas's
  boring songs pavadaprayathil...,Jan ninne premikkunnu...,ni madhu pakaru,omalae kandoo jan etc.It gave some importance to our playback singing too ( MALAYALAM).
  
  After that,Sri JAYACHANDRAN never had to look back,many many awards.He was the best playback singer in malayalam,obviously was a headache for yeshudas somebody singing better than him.He was planning to do something at
  this stage.
  
  But..he has to wait...wait upto 1987.(I know,what hwppened,but can't make that secret public).Unfortunately Sri JAYACHANDRAN has to leave from our playback singing and was getting awards in TAMIL.That also was too much for
  yeshudas.Sri JAYACHANDRAN also sung in all languages iN india.In 1992,i remember he inaugaratted a function at calcutta after singing for 2 days and recording for a bengali film.But he is the ONLY singer who sung in most Indian
  REGIOANL languages.
  
  Now he is old..but is now also best in malayalam.He came back with prayam nammil...getting state award.Again headache for yeshudas.But Sri JAYACHANDRAN being a good,generous,kind,self-respecting,not caring adverse
  experiences now also respects yeshudas by telling him as "DASETTAN" like that young man requested to him of age 23...for just entering into music!!!!!He forgot all that,he love music..he now also loves yeshudas.ITself shows how
  patient,good he is!
  
  Last year during april,there was a programme (Light music concert) by Sri JAYACHANDRAN and his son,but he made yeshudas also to come for the programme after requesting the club members.
  
  Sri JAYACHANDRAN's life resembles the story of a boy who became great after getting a dead rat thrown by one merchant,and finally returned bach a rat made in gold!!!Heard the story?
