  Making a film with a superstar and meeting the audience’s stratospheric expectations is a challenge and a difficult task. Fortunately for director Shafi and producer Lal, Dileep’s Christmas release Kalyanaraman is a hilarious laugh riot.
  
  The film starts with a 78 year old Ramankutty (Dileep) telling his story in a flashback to his grandchildren. He belonged to a family who were wedding planners who used to arrange everything that goes into a wedding like erecting pandals, doing all the decorations, arranging musicians, generator, cars and he even cooking for the wedding party! During one of such a wedding at the Ambadi Thampi’s house, where Ramankutty is in charge of all the departments the marriage gets cancelled in the last minute. The reason was that the groom refuses to tie the knot, as the bride was dumb. But a good man at heart, Ramankutty asks his brother who is a doctor to marry the helpless girl. Ramankutty falls in love with the girl’s sister Gowri (Navya Nair), but she pretends to be in love with her uncle’s son (Boban Kunchakko) who is a pop-singer in Bangalore. But later Ramankutty learns that Gowri loves him, but Thampi feels that the women in Ramankutty’s family die at a very young age and so he is against their wedding. How Ramankutty marries Gowri against all odds and live to tell their grandchildren about their love story, forms the rest of the story.
  
  The story is wafer thin and has been made keeping Dileep’s current image in mind. Anyway the film is all fun ‘n’ frolic as director Shafi and script writer Benny.P.Narabambalam could have made it a whole lot more cherishable as simplicity is forsaken for chaos. Dileep is superb and Navya Nair is improving with ever film.

  Only stupids say Kalyanaraman is crap...
  As per collection reports, this movie is going to be a bigger hit than Meesha madhavan.
  
  I saw the movie. Excellent performance by Dileep & Navya. Rotten comedy by Salimkumar in certian situations is the only negative point about the movie...

  Kalyaana Raaman is the biggest hit out of all the christmas releases. Yaathrakaarude Sradhakku is second. I dont know about Nammal.

  People who have seen Nandanam says the movie is very good. But I don't know whether it will become a super hit.

  The competition is mainly Kalyanaraman versus Yaathrakarude sradhakku. I think Kalyanaraman's doing better because it's more fun-filled. YS has more of a story to it.

  True for certain parts of Kerala.
  In other places competition is between Kalyanaraman, Nandanam and YS.
