Guys,
For those interested, The complete list of winners of the 50th National Film Awards is up at MoviemagiK http://moviemagik.tripod.com
AS far as Malayalam film industry is concerned it was a big disappointment. But pls note that actress Jyothirmayee got a special mention for the film Bhavum.
Tamil and Bengal films stole the show with Mani Ratnam's Kannathil Muthamittal doing a pretty good job including one for A.R. Rahman.

Its a shame bharath award went to ajay. I am pretty sure all the other candidates performed far better than ajay. Kamal Hassan was excellent in anpe sivam. I didn't see nizhal koothu, but i have seen many films of oduvil unni krishnan from malayalam, and he is one hell of an actor.

Anybody knows what is the criteria for special jury award. Newspapers say that Jyothirmayee was not considered for the best actress award. Only Aishwarya, Navya, Konkana were considered. But they did not get the special award !!! Anybody knows why is it so? I have noticed this thing is previous years too.

whenever malayalam cinema doesn't bag awards at the national level, this is the way we react. and that has become so predictable. hindi actors inodu pothuve nammude udayil ulla oru puchcham aanu vince inte comment il kaanunnathu. and i'm sure that he hasn't seen the legend of bhagat singh. judging oduvil's preformance in nizhal kuthu basing on what you've seen of him in other movies doesn't make a wee bit of sense here. devgan has been, in the last 4-5 years, proving time and again that he has matured into a fabulous actor. and his second national award, for once, bolden his credetianls. risking a flurry of therivilis from mohanlal fans, i have to say that though mohanlal gave a terrific performance, devgan was better than lal in company. and any way, with the kind of moosas and madhavans and bachelors and thaandavams that we get to see now, even dreaming national awards for mal movies is sacrilege. and those who ever thought navya nair even stood a semblance of chance against the brilliant performance from konkona sen-sharma, well that was wishful thinking, to say the least.

I have seen the legend of bhagat singh, and there was nothing great to talk abt ajay's acting. I do like ajay dev guns films, but i don't think he is a good actor. I don't care abt awards, but i am glad that navya nair didn't get the award.

oberoi? I thought even mohanlal was better than ajay in company. IF ajay won anything it should have been for "company" and not "legend." I expected lal to take supporting actor this year, but "company" went without so much as a single award. a shame. as for our malayalam films, besides "nizhalkuthu" and "bhavum," kerala had nothing remotely decent this year, and got what it deserved. although awards don't mean much in the long run, the artistic recognition and tradition behind the awards do, and kerala was once unrivaled in this respect.

Wud somebody plz tell me what was "decent" abt Bhavam? Coz I seem to have missed it, after going through a one-and-a-half-hour long visual thrash!

I saw Mr & Mrs Ayyar..
I didnt find any thing great abt konkona sen-sharma's perfomance.. she did justice to her role..but definetly her perfomance was not worth for the national award!!
Yeshudas Lost National award only because nobody was there to support him in the last round..he was leading with 6.4 points till last round..udith narayan was holding only 3 points..but in the last round our malayalee jury memebers was not sure among themselves and our great singer lost the award..

awards r foolishness....not believe in it.....
how deserving is ajay devgon for 2nd national award...Lekha said he is an improving acter...How
can an improving acter get two national awrds....
Think that even Mohanlal who is a great acter and performed brilliantly in more than 25 films got only 2 national awards...and ajay who has done 1 or 2 or 3 good performance gets 2 national awards...itis either a joke of god or game of jurie members what more to say...any way credibility of national awards gone down...even the great thilakan, nedumudi, and jagathi has not won a single award and The great amithab has won only 1 award and devgon 2(along with Mohanlal!!!)....great going...It is better to avoid this drama.

Mohanlal did not get 2 national awards. He got three. Two for best actor (Bharatham and Vanaprastham) and one as a special mention of the jury (Kireedam). He also got the award for best film, as the producer of "Vanaprastham," a honor unequalled by any star/actor turned producer.

Rakesh, when we say Lal got 2 national awards, we are referring to the best actor awards he got. So, I think, 'Common Man' was correct, though not 'technically' correct !!
However, Lal deserved much more than what he got.
Then, regarding politics, one Jury member from Malayalam was the son of a Central Minister. He blamed all the malayalam movies, saying they dont have standard. (But, intersetingly 5 mallu movies were selected for Indian panorama)

Most certainly Ajay did not deserve National Award at all. Now even National Award is given for popular films and not for deserving ones.

Ajay Devgan did a good job in TLOBS. But does that mean a nat award??? The answer is no!!!!I was just seeing Karumaadikuttan by Kalabhavan mani who is simply terrific. Did he get any award? Mohanlal also did not deserve nat award for company. If anyone did deserve one-it had to be R.Madhavan for his performance in Kannathil-SUPERB.

all you people are blind if u think dat ajay devgan did noot deserve da national award. it is bout time his talent got recognised and i beleive he should have about ten national awards by now and all you people who are raving about mohanlals performance - if he has got two nat, awards, devgan should have at least four by now!!!!!!!

he deserves 1000 national awards at least...
any thing less than that will be in justice.
Is there any value for such awards.
