  It is President Mr. kalam who the inner voice of Sonia Gandhi.Under this, Citizenship Act. there is a reciprocity provision whereby citizenship granted by India to persons of foreign origin is circumscribed by the rights that particular country confers upon foreigners seeking citizenship there.

  The crux of this provision of "reciprocity" is that a person of foreign origin, who has acquired the citizenship of India through registration by virtue of marrying an Indian national, cannot enjoy more rights (like becoming Prime Minister), if the same opportunity is not available to an Indian-born citizen in that particular country.

  Even our defense minister is not supposed to marry a foreigner without permission or quitting post and this???Section 5 of the Citizenship Act, dealing with the reciprocity clause for a person who registered herself as an Indian citizen, says the said person could not enjoy more rights than those available to an Indian born person in that other country if he/she acquires citizenship of that country, like Italy for instance.

  sonia maino has tried to show the country that she is a polititian who is not hungry after power.But the good news is ,she over did it and some paid people over acted.Many educated people have realised that it was this drama that was discussed in the congress meetings and the whole thing was an elaborate set-up.I dont know and hope not that the rural population is carried away by this cheap and obvious trick.

  persons of Indian origin, who or either of whose parents was born in undivided India and who are ordinarily resident in India for five years;
  
  
  persons of India origin who are ordinarily residents in any country or place outside undivided India;
  
  
  persons who are or have been married to a citizen of India and who are ordinarily resident in India for five years;
  
  
  minor children both whose parents are Indian citizens;
  
  
  a citizen of Singapore and Canada who is resident in India for five years and eight years respectively.
  
  i don't think there were any legal hassles, but guess was a qn of ethics, and appreciate that she had taken a wise decision..

  one more aspect.. the law of reciprocity is about the rights that can be conferred on the citizen of another country.. this is section 12 of citizenship act.
  
  12. Power to confer rights of Indian citizen on citizens of certain countries
  (1) The Central Government may, by order notified in the Official Gazette, make provisions on a basis of reciprocity for the conferment of all or any of the rights of a citizen of India on the citizens of any country specified in Schedule I.
  (2) Any order made under sub-section (1) shall have effect notwithstanding anything inconsistent therewith contained in any law other than the Constitution of India or this Act.
