Gramophone tells the story of a young man, the son of a noted musician who had established himself even in filmdom. The father, who is dead and never is shown on screen, never did anything for his family and after his death, the responsibility of the family falls on the shoulders of his young son, our hero. Though the young man too is a musician and had sung songs in his college days, he begins to hate music.
Dileep plays the central character. And the film also shows many characters associated with the young mans dead father. One of the heroines, Meera Jasmine, plays a Jew. There is also a lady, and old-time singer associated with the heros father, who comes from Mumbai. And the second heroine of the film, played by Navya Nair, is the daughter of this lady. All these characters associated with the late musician and his young son came together to weave the plot of Gramophone.
The film , to be produced by Sargam Kabeer under the banner of Sargam Speed Productions, will be shot in Fort Kochi and Mattancherry, where Jewish population reside. The number of Jews in this area has dwindled very much over the years. In this film, Id have this Jewish community as part of the backdrop. One of the main female characters would be a Jew. This would, perhaps, be the first time in Malayalam cinema that the Jewish community would be brought to light.
