Mr Brahmachari

Cast: Mohanlal, Jagathy Sreekumar, Meena, Nedumudi Venu

Director: Thulasidas

This is the first time Mohanlal acts in a Thulasidas' film. Mr Brahmachari produced by Aroma Mani is said to be Mohanlal's first full-length comedy after two years. Mohanlal, desperately in need of a hit, has turned to comedy with this film. But the worst part is that the film has got nothing new. Each time a Mohanlal film is made, everybody (his fans) expect something scintillating. Compared to earlier films, there is no violence, no lewd scenes and filthy dialogues. The film is just average.

The story evolves around Puthenpurackkal Ananthan Thampy, a middle aged who has decided never to marry and is into body building. He thinks he will loose all his youthfulness and pleasing looks by marriage. But the fate has some other scenario for Ananthan Thampy, a staunch devotee of Hanuman. Ganga (Meena) and family comes to stay in neighborhood. Ananthan Thampy is nervous first and furious next. A highly humorous film in which Mohanlal returns to his best - comedy. It would be a treat to watch Mohanlal and Jagathy with their funny one-liners and rib tickling humour. His sister Nirmala (Bindu panikkar) and her husband is Venugopalan Thambi (Jagathy Sreekumar) are too happy about the decision, as they want their two daughters to inherit Thampi's properties. Thampi is a do-gooder who gets things done for the locals. He also owns a cable company.

Nirmala rents Thampi's outhouse to a teacher (K R Vijaya) and her three daughters. The eldest Ganga (Meena) soon becomes the favourite of everybody. One day a guy, Aravindan comes and pleads with Thampi for a job in his cable company. Thampi mistakes Aravindan to be Ganga's lover and promises him to help him marry her. But soon Aravindan goes away to join the army and Thampi and his men sabotage all marriage proposals of Ganga. But soon Thampi is forced by his parents and the teacher to marry Ganga. What happens when Aravindan comes back forms the climax of the film.

Mohanlal has nothing much to do, and he looks uncomfortable throughout. His scenes with Jagathy, Jagadhish and others are rehashes of earlier comedies. Meena is there for the song 'n' dance numbers. Almost all the scenes look uninteresting and predictable. The songs tuned by Mohan Sitara are just average.

Supporting cast has Nedumudy Venu, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Jagathy Sreekumar, K RVijaya, Jagadheesh, Premkumar, Manoj KJayan, Kalpana and Sindhu Menon. The script is by J.Pallasery and the camera is by Venugopal. Mohan Sitara tunes the songs penned by Gireesh Puthencherry.
