My name is bharat joshi. i live in indore (india) & playing
harmonium since 12 years. with my guruji & others in gazals &
indian classical music. Beside this i am working in the field of web
designing.
now i want to go and play harmonium abroad & want to be regular
player of harmonium.

  Harmonium doubt
  Recently I got a liking to pursue harmonium as hobby and baught one. I had the basic
  such as the notaion of swaras and finger numbering from soundindia.com, but no further guidance.
  Could any one clear my simple doubts?
  What I know
  Fingers are given numbers 1 2 3 4 5 starting from thumb
  The 12 keys in the middle is one Octave. It is devide to 2 blakck keys and 3 black keys
  S starts from the white key left to the first black key and the finger sssignment are as follows
  S-1 Rr-2 Gg-3 m-1 P-2 Dd-3 Nn-4 S'-5 capitals are Suddha and small are theevra
  Doubts
  1 In another case M is given 4. Is this the case for all ragas wher madhyama is theevra?
  There too which finger goes to the succeding P D etc
  2. When the swara extend furter to thara and mantra how the clash in the S is negotiated? I mean fingers 1 and 5 are given for the same swara
  3 which keys are marked to which fingers in the folloing sequense
  m P G m, m G P m
  S m R P G D, D G P R m S
  R N','N R
  'N S R G, G R S 'N
  N S' R', R' S' N
  I am in Kerala, India and a middleaged man, knowing basic sanskrit, karnatic music basics

  Hello Sambhu,
  
  There is no strict rules that says, we should only use this finger for this Swara.We should use the fingers in such a way that we will be able to play the swaras fast when required. I am using mainly 4 fingers and occasionally the fifth finger. So S-1, R-2, G-3,M-4, P-1,D-2,N-3,S(Higer)-4. The swara can be either R1(Suddha)/R2(chathusrathi) or R3(Shatruthi), but we can use the same finger-2.
  
  When you go to thara or manthra swara, you need to use the entire set of fingers as mentioned above in those swaras..When you need to go to n S(upper) R use, n-3, S-1,R-2 accrodingly..
