dear ravi undaram even the basic sounds of the birds and whales are baed on the internal rhythm of the heart beat. this primal or baic or primitive beat or rhythm i the basis of the basic temporal structure in the brain. thu the primitive rhythmic structure becomes the basis of natural music. Whether it i the bird or the whale or human beings. Thu music not only transcends race and culture but in fact the species specificity.

robin,
interesting. you do work on music in linguistic expression! (so you do go beyond the surface :-)) ) can you please write to me, if you don't mind, about what you do.
john cage!! xenakis?!? :-)) are you certain they belong in here? (these two were considered pioneers in what is called "chance music" where stochastice principles are built in to the composition process!)

hi john cage I think doe belong there becaue of the 4/3 nocturne the notorious silent piece. he took the quetion of what i music to the height. ome think like chomky redefining the concept of language. With regard to my work I use the webern music and his redefinition of muic grammarb to try and conceptually analyze how thought process and conceptualization would be if we did not have the grammar the way we do have now. That is only to give a sketch of an outline of my work.
