Varalakshmi Krithis

I know the Dikshithar krithi, Sri Varalakshmi Nana Sthubyam, in Raga Sri, which is the only one I can think of written on the Goddess Varalakshmi(I think she is slightly different to Lakshmi, am I right? I assume this because there is the Sumangali Poojai, also known as Varalakshmi Viradham).
I'm actually looking for something in Tamil, perhaps even a translation of the Dikshithar Krithi.
Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

Geetha,
I think 'Vara Lakshmi' is one of the eight forms (Ashta Lakshmi) of Lakshmi.
As far as I remember, the eight lakshmis are : Vara lakshmi, Santhaana lakshmi, Veera lakshmi, Dhaanya lakshmi, Dhana lakshmi, Bhaagya lakshmi, Maha lakshmi, Vijaya lakshmi.
(If you want I can write a song in Tamil on Vara Lakshmi :-)

Wow, what a depth of knowledge, Cheers Venky. I wonder if you would be able to translate Shri Varalakshmi Namosthuthe in Raga Sri, Dikshitar into Tamil, so it can be sung to the same notes, just in Tamil? Please?

Geetha
We have a cassette called "varalakshmi viradha pAdalakal' by R. Vedavalli. It has some 8 or so songs, nicely rendered. I guess it has a tamil song too - gotta check it up.

Hello Friends,
Varalakshmi is not one of the 8 (Asta) Lakshmis.
Send in more details about Goddess Varalakshmi if you have any..
I don't know any songs related to that Goddess.

There are some more Dikshitar Krithis on Varalakshmi (or atleast where Varalakshmi appears).
1. Varalakshmeem Bhajare - Saurashtram
2. Mangala Devathaayaa - Dhanyasi
Anupallavi has the phrase
"Sarasija Grihaaya Varalakshmyaa Harihara Guruguha"
3. Neelothpalambhika - Kannada Gowla
Anupallavi has the phrase
"Valleesa Guruguha Poojithayaa Varalakshmee Vaanee"
Other Krithis
"Varalakshmi - Gaurimanohari" of Mysore Vasudevachar

LGT, you may be uniquely qualified to perhaps answer this !? : How are the 'ashta Laxmi' related to the 'ashta Siddhi' attained by Ganapathi ? e.g. animaadi-Ashtaishwaraya, in Ganapathe Mahaamate Kalyani etc.

The commonest dyaana sthOthrams for Ashta Lakshmi identify the following:
1)Aadhi Lakshmi
2)Santhaana Lakshmi
3)Gaja Lakshmi
4)Dhana Lakshmi
5)Dhaanya Lakshmi
6)Vijaya Lakshmi
7)Mahaa Lakshmi
8)Viira Lakshmi
Another version gives the following:
1)Aadhi Lakshmi
2Dhana Lakshmi
3)Dhaanya Lakshmi
4)Thairya Lakshmi
5)Gaja Lakshmi
6)Santhaana Lakshmi
7)Vijaya Lakshmi
8)Vidya Lakshmi
There are 108 Lakshmis out of which the Ashta Lakshmis are generally worshipped.
Vara Lakshmi, Viirya Lakshmi, MOksha Lakshmi, Anna Lakshmi, SwarNa Lakshmi, Bhaagya Lakshmi/Saubhaagya Lakshmi/Vaibhava Lakshmi, Siddha Lakshmi, Griha Lakshmi, Rajya Lakshmi, Kiirththi Lakshmi etc., come under this group.

Thanks, JayBee. The Anima-mahima-laghima..set of eight etc referred by MD for the Ganapati probably has nothing to do with Lakshmi. Laghima for example is levitating over land-water. There may also be otehr siddhis under Kundalini and Tantra.

The ashta maha siddhis also are the maidens in attendance to Sri RajaRajEshwari.
The dhyaana sthOthram of Sri Lalitha Sahasranaamam says,
'animaadibhir - aavr.thaam - mayuukhair -aham- ithyEva- vibhaavayE - bhavaaniim'.
The Lakshmis are also said to be in attendance.
But there are no parallelisms between the two.
The 'aishwaryam' among the eight siddhis is of a differnt nature.
It does not merely denote material ricness which is implied in the word 'ashta aishwaryam'.
It means lordship and mastery over everything and all elements.
'Ishwarath thanmai' = 'Aishwaryam' in case of the siddhis.
As you said, there are more siddhis than the ashta mahaa siddhis.
32, 64, and 96 according various lists.
For instance, the levitation, practiced by some meditation schools, is known as durdura siddhi.

What Happen ?
Looks like none can come out with Varalakshmi
krithi"s.
I am one like too. I ended up on this page looking for Varalaksmi Krithi's ' one day b/4
the pooja.
Well if you can't get one, you can sing Maha
Lakhsmi Ashtakam because the fruits are the same.

The only (musically solid) Tamil song on Varalaxmi that I know of is by Papanasam Sivan. It is "varalaxmI nIyE"
in the rare raga, chAlaga bairavi. ( He pleads with the deity, humorously, in that kriti..saying it is not enough to visit him only once a year!)
O.S.Thyagarajan sings it quite often; and is perhaps in one of his cassettes.A search in the internet might unearth this Tamil song.
