Over the years, Seshagopalan has enthralled the rasikas and demonstrated proficiency in multiple aspects of music & arts - He has moved on from "thirupughaz on Harmonium" to Vocal to SilverScreen to Veena to Keyboard and now is aspiring to become an Harikatha exponent...

Sounds like he's getting ready for THE Title, don't you think ?

  are we not giving too much importance to the title?.I am not aware if any other classical music form (hindusthani or even western) has this kind of a title.
  As long as it conveys a deep sense of appreciation(in this case ,by an institution -The Music Academy),it is alright.
  But to think of it as an anuual race of sorts , it is sheer waste.TNS (or for that matter MDR.Lalgudi ,Somu Etc Etc) will live long in the memories of rasikas, Title or no Title.
  If The Academy wants to move with times, Probably they can look at the way Oscars are given or even awards like Footballer of the year etc.The set of people who vote as broadbased,and specialists in the respective fields.
  More relevant is the list of tasks a Kalanidhi is made to undertake.I once saw Umayalpuram Sivraman labouring through a full 90 minutes of some substandard bhajan singing in one of the morning slots , introducing the artists ,listening to them , and closing the session.It was all beyond belief...

  What is the purpose of this award? Is it to tell people that this vidwan(like TNS) is a person of merit? People already know that. Why do people care only about the Sangita Kalanidhi? MDR, Mali were not given this award, so what? I think MDR's music is really great that there no need for Music Academy to acknowledge it. I think it is the other way around.. Music Academy wants know that it is "THE" sabha.
