Hi,
I am trying to understand why the Panchrathna krithis are called so and why they are such an important part of the Thyagaraja Aradhana.
Thanks

These five were considered by Tyagaraja as ghana ragas and they are also different from his other compositions. Other Pancharatnas include Lalgudi and Shrirangam.

Preethi; you can *buy* many versions by many different artists on tape or CD. Seek downloads of rare or obscure items by all means; otherwise please support music if you want to enjoy it.

Hi LR
the rAgas were not considered by SrityAgarAja as ghana rAgas. They have been ghana rAgas since ancient times as they are suited for tAna singing. tyAgarAjaru chose to composde in these 5 rAgas that form the prathama ghana rAga pancaka

Music needs support. The artistes do their best by carrying forward and keeping alive the creative works of our ancient saints and musicians. As fans, we can support them by buying the CDs/Cassettes. Please avoid downloading copyrighted music and also avoid posting any for others to download. Ours is an illustrious heritage. And it needs all our active support to stay on for the ages. Thank you.

Bala, I entirely agree. Downloading can be great for the rare or otherwise unobtainable, but where CDs and cassettes are available all who want that music and can possibly pay for it should do so for exactly the reasons you give.
But I'm afraid the expectation that it will be there for free is too ingainded now; this battle has been lost.
