when you download the music to your cd and happiliy listen to them, who will be paying for the poor artiste who has played the instrument? Will you give your services for free again and again to the public? Think about your own job or profession. Will you tell your employer/boss "take work from me but you need not pay me for it"?

On the same subject of downloading music , the record labels of the west are on the verge of launching a major(defensive ??) action against people who use P2P networks like Kazaa to download music(in short - pirates). Well a CD with 6-7 songs is charged at £15/- by these record labels and inspite of the huge margin of profit they enjoy they are least curteous and still greedy. They say that a major part of the £15/- goes towards promoting new artists but that's cobblers. On the other hand, the Indian CDs are 'cheap' to say the least. A classical CD costs somewhere between 100-400INR and if you discount the operational costs and artist's wages , the record companies make a 'nominal' profit. What I am trying to get at is - the Indian music industry is NOT as greedy as their western counterparts and we should try to buy CDs/tapes wherever possible. Also, the other motivation would be, every tape/cd you buy pays a portion of the profit directly to the artists as royalty.

Anybody with a sound mind will get the gist of the 'lecture' that downloading MP3s is not possible unless you decide to become a pirate.

There is music available for free on the internet, and some it is legit.
Western artists get royalty payments on CD sales, I suspect that most Indian artists only get a one-off payment. But at least if the CD sells they may be asked back to make another one.
Those who can afford the CDs, please BUY the CDs.
