Could you please provide information on this composer? I have only heard of Jayachanaraja Odeyar. Are these two related in any way? Is gIta gOpAla one of his compositions? What raga is it in? Thanks.

Lji,

He appointed staff for specific jobs, fixed wages for different works, built several canals to provide water for irrigation, introduced weights and measures and also postal system, imposed taxes to improve revenue, constructed storehouses to store produces, and set up 18 departments (Chavadis) in the administration. During his 31 years of reign, Mysore saw peak of its glory. Kannada literature flourished under him, the Maharaja himself making significant contribution.
Dodda Devaraja`s son was Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar.

1.Ranadheera Kanteerava Narasaraja Wodeyar.
2. Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar.
3. Kanteerava Narasaraja Wodeyar II.
4. Krishnaraja Wodeyar I.
5. Krishnaraja Wodeyar II.
6. Krishnaraja Wodeyar III (Mummadi).

He is credited with composing a poetical work called GITA GOPALAN modelled on Gita Govinda of Jayadeva. Each part conatins a series of songs in seven sections ( saptapadis). Each section of the first part conatins seven group of songs all in tripadi metre; each section of the second part also embodies the same number of groups of songs which are however, in the panchapadi, tripadi and ekapdi metres, thier number varying. The songs on the whole seem to be modelled and improved upon those of the earlier works. delivered in a colloquial diction the songs in the gita gopalan have a fascination of their own; they are soul stirring and universal in their appeal.

Information given by meena (@ user-1121cng.dsl.mindspring.com is not entirely accurate.
All the names listed are the names of successive rulers under Wodeyar dynasty leaving out few during the usurption of the throne by the muslims.
But it would be wholly inaccurate to term all of them as composers. Jaya chamaraja Wodeyar is undoubtedly a well known composers of the Dynasty having composed around 96 kirtanas and even MSS sang his composition at US.
Krishnaraja Wodeay III did compose many Javalis.
His son Chamaraja Wodeyar and his son Krishnaraja wodeyar IV were great patrons of Music, which probably unparalled in modern times.
