Can we talk about the great singers of yesteryear and how different is the style of singing of their disciples? For instance, how close is Sudha Raghunathan's style to MLV's or TVS' to MM Iyers?

I AM SURPRISED NO ONE HAS SPOKEN ABOUT LALGUDIS SHISHYA PARAMPARA, I MEAN THE VOCALISTS. IS NOT BOMBAY JAYASHREE ONE OF THE BRIGHTEST SINGERS OF THE PRESENT GENERATION? CAN ANY BODY TELL ME WHICH BANI DOES SHE FOLLOW?

One observation that comes to my mind that in case of present generation the sishyas who are being promoted into the forefront seems to be the sons/ grandsons except for some people like DKJ.

I know that one of Calcutta K.S.Krishnamurti's disciple is Sanjay Subramaniam. Perhaps Sanjay would be able to give info on other disciples of KSK.

>>What about Balamurali's sishyas?
[Prince] Rama Varma deserves a mention -- and, as far as I'm concerned it would be a very complementary one.
well...i too agree with Nick's opinion...I had the goodfortune to attend to few of his performances long back and I am very much impressed by the ragavistaram he render. devoted musician he is.

Neyveli Santhanagopalan took his initial training under Chemabi Ananthan, nephew and disciple of Chembai Vaidhyanatha Bhagavathar. He later on moved under Maharajapuram and finanly Seshagopalan. One can notice Chemabi's style in his handling of brika-swaras.

Re: the late Sri KSK's shishya parampara.
K.N.Shashikiran (brother of the legendary gotuvadyam exponent Ravi Kiran) is also one of his students.
Even Sudha Raghunathan used to learn from Sri KSK after MLV's demise.
One other great guru is Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri R.K.Srikantan.
His list of shishyas includes M.S.Sheela, T.S.Sathyavathi, Flautist Shashank and many others.

We should not forget Sri Sripada Pinakapani who is responsible for bringing up students like Nedunuri Krishnamurthy, Voleti Venkateswarulu, Srirangam Gopalaratnam, Nukala Chinna Satyanarayana

I am surprised I don't see any one talking about the legendary violinist Chowdiah. Apart from being a violinist he was also good in vocal music. Some of his top notch desciples include Prof Myosre V. Ramarathnam (vocal) ( http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/Stage/4244/V_Ramarathnam.html ), and violinists such as V. Sethuramiah (from Madras), R.K. Venkatarama Sastry (grand father of R.K. Sriramakumaran), Kandadevi Alagiriswamy, C.R. mani, etc...
