ORIGINAL contribution of posttrinity composers

Once Patnam Subrahmanya iyer is said to have remarked how difficult it was to compose in kalyANi without the influence of tyAgarAja and after much effort composed nijadAsa varada.
He,the sivan brothers(ramaswamy &mahaVaidyanAtha ),kotishwara iyer can be mentioned as original compsers.What about the others? ie the influence of trinity on their compositions?

HMB, Mys. Vasudevacharya are first rank. But the Trinities vision and scope in terms of taalas and raagas is unmistakeable, ( even different starting swaras for a raaga have been thouroughly examined by them )
Maybe PratiMadhyama melas (other than Kalyani-Pantuvarali, I guess ) offer modern composers some refuge.

What i'd like to know is:
what exactly is papanasam sivan's contribution in terms of music? ie what new aspect of any raga has he examined etc.

'new? aspect of a raaga' I guess you mean what may be his personal interpretation. This is an interesting question.
On a side note I have heard that PapanasamS waited a long time to get his Kalanidhi award ( almost nearly posthumous ), whatever that means. His connections with the film industry may have to do with this.

i think mys. vasu. has a great deal of thyagaraja influence in his krithis. in fact, one can easily mistake some of his less verbose krithis to that of thyagu's.
on the other hand, mysore sadasiva rao's compositions could definitely be hailed as being innovative.
he was the prashishya of thyagu and though his krithis were within the thyagu framework in a broader sense, his conception of ragas are certainly unique and unparalleled.
it would be interesting to take a raga - analyse the way the trinity have handled it and then take up each of the post-trinity composers and see whether there is any new prayogam or approach which the post-trinity composers have introduced in that raga.
that would, IMHO, be the acid test for all of them!! :-)

I think Lalgudi Jayaraman is a fantastic composer.
I have heard only the tunes of most of his compositions ( without Lyrics) as they are played on the violin.
But They are extract the essence of the raga

What do people think of Balamurali's compositions? I heard some of them on tapes and cds. SOme are really good compositions and the way he works the raga mudra into the song is impressive. Dikshitar's influence seems to be a lot on him since his compositions resemble Dikshitar's. Some on the other hand, are in really new ragas and takes time for me to appreciate it.
Anyway, pl. share ur opinions.

How about Gopalakrishna Bharathiar? His contribution to carnatic (esp tamil isai) music is very significant. I think he's also handled most of the ragas done by trinity.
