hello all,
I've acctully been playing the saxophone for 3 years now and iam a great fan of kadri gopalnath's work. I've tried to e-mail him in the past but i've not had a reply. I am looking for tamil and carnatic songs in saxophone notation. Alto saxophone to be precise. If anyone has any please help. thank you

  To play Tamil/Carnatic songs on the Alto saxophone, usually I take the notes in Sa, Ri, Ga Ma notation and play. Not very successful with gamakams, it is very difficult.
  
  I take the key G for "Sa" and can get nearly 2 octaves above it and go down to Eb or "Pa" on the lower octave.
  
  It is difficult for me to read the staff notation hence I usually translate it to Sa, Ri, Ga..
  
  If you have tamil songs notated for Piano/Guitar, you can transpose them to a lower pitch suitably for the alto sax.

  Mr. Logenthiran,
  
  Pianos are usually on the concert pitch. An Eb on the Piano is usually a C on an alto Sax. So any notes for the piano has to be shifted down by 3 half notes for the Alto Sax.

  I have an arrangement of "Lambodhara" - ragam Malahari for the Alto Sax but it has F# as "Sa" while I am comfortable with G as "Sa" since the fingering is then similar to that of a bamboo flute (I experimented with the Sax after playing the flute for a few years so..).
  
  If you are comfortable reading sheet music on piano, you can transpose all of them to alto sax by playing it 3 half notes lower.
  
  Please let me know if you have any that you can put on the web. Unfortunatley the "Lambodhara" arrangement that I have is on paper.
