Hi,
In the ragamalika "raagathil piranth" (raaga cassette) by Nithyasree, the last stanza (starting with "Kapalinee") is in which raaga ? Is it Malayamarutham ?
Thanks and Regards,
Darsana

Do uyou mean Ragathil siranthathu? If so, there is no phrase starting with Kapalinee in that song.
However there is a song by that title in the raga Paalini(jANYA of Chakravaaham)

Nityashri sings a composition "kapAlinI pAlinI" in the rAgam pAlini (a janyam of vakuLAbharaNam (meLam 14), composed by her mother Lalita Shivakumar. The rAgamudra "pAlini" appears in pallavi, anupallavi, and caranam lines in three different ways, with different meanings. When she sings this song, she usually mentins these informations.

Hi,
Thanks a lot Shyam and PPN(?). I actually did not listen to the cassette as a whole and just heard few lines of Kapalinee from my teacher.
Regardless of whether melakartha is chakravaakam or vakulaabharanam , I hope the arohana, avarohana is
SRGPNS, SNPGRS. I haven't heard about this raag before.

Darsana

In www.sriranjani.com, I saw a ragam namely
'lasaki' which is janyam of vakulabharanam with arohanam and avarohanam as srgpns, snpgrs. Now I am confused. Could someone please explain about these two ragas ? ie, PAALINI AND LASAKI.
Thanks and Regards,
Darsana

I have the CD booklet of Ragam 1 (Amutham AM010) in front of me. I believe the song in question, Kapali Nee, is number 7 on the CD. The book states number 7 is in Ragam Palini [Janya Ragam of Melakartha-16-Chakravagam]. The ascending scale is : S R1 G3 P N2 S. The descending scale is: S. N2 P
G3 R1 S . The booklet further states that the lyric was written by Smt. Lalitha Sivakumar, mother and Guru of Nithyasree. Also in the booklet is this: "Please note that the name of the raga appears in the Pallavi, Anupallavi, and Charanam as an integral part of the lyric with different meaning in each phrase." I hope this helps. I am a fan of Nithyasree and Carnatic music.

Thanks Burton. But I saw a ragam namely Laasika with the same swaras and the prder for Aarohanam and avarohanam. I just wanted to differentiate. I got the audio cassete of Ragam. Kapalinee is a great song.

Two scales are given for lasaki. The raga is placed under mela 14. SRGPNS/SNPGRS and SRMPNS/SPMGRS. Both scales provided by R.R.Keshavamurti.

Lakshaman, could you please tell me the source of this info ? Is there a book by R R Keshavamurthi ?
Whether it is jnyam of 14th or 16 th, I hope SRGPNS - SNPGRS will be same. Or is it like Aarabhi and Devagaandhari with different sanchara and bhavam?
Regards,
Darsana
