Hi!!
I am a Carnatic Music Lover and I am proud to be the native of a very nearby village of Chembai Gramam.. I was wondering why there is not much debate/topic/articles about this Carnatic Satlwart in the web.. About a year back or so, when I visited an important Carnatic Music site, there were articles on many artists of today and yester years, except Pujyashree Chembai.. Then I wrote to that web-site, for which there was no response..
If anybody talks about Carnatic Music, can we avoid this Great Bhagawathar???? I am very happy that at least you have put some efforts.. I will be joining in this group..While on the subject, may I let you know all that today Dr. KJY and his son will be performing Kacheri at Chembai in connection with the festival going-on at Chembai Parthasarathy Koil.. I have witnessed this festival and the kacheri programmes quite a many times and it is one of the greatest music festivals in our village
With best wishes.. // MPKK

Sir,
I am very young and have no indepth knowledge of Carnatic music or its roots. All I can say is that most of these sites on the web are hosted in America and in America people who have been away from home for a long time have certainly lost connection with the roots. Hence the discrepancies.
Thanks

I do agree that Chembai was a great artist and personality, but his contributions to music are not very well known (whatever they may be). He was not a trendsetter, so to speak. He was simply a great artist.
And to comment on Ravi's message... The usage of the word "most" was terribly inappropriate. People in America who develop webpages are much likely FAR more knowlegable in carnatic music then people in India (especially carnatic music in the past). We have access to treasure troves of audio cassettes as well as vintage photos and articles on these masters, which many Indians have never seen. Take this into consideration: ask an aspiring mridangist in India who Pazhani Subramanium Pillai is... he/she will by no means be able to reply you! They wouldn't even know people of their grandparents era of mriadangists! People my age in this country have made full fledged webpages on many great masters of the past. That should show you the plight in this matter.

I have recently developed interest in Carnatic Music. Though I hail from Lakshminarayanapuram, a village in Palghat, and have heard Chembai Baghavathar at Navaratri festivals in Trivandrum during my school days, I did not get inclined to this music form till lately.
Now I am seriuosly pursuing to understand Carnatic music. Chembai's voice is a real treat and I am now collecting the recording of his songs. I have with me about 10 good songs which I can post, if anyone of you isinterested. I am also interested in obtaining songs which you may have collected of Chembai Baghavathar. I have standardised on MP3 format 128Kbps at 44.1KHz.
Thanks you
