  ‘Were’ because new temples might have become popular after I left. Sri Lanka being a small country and most Hindu temples were within the reach of the Portuguese colonials, all ancient temples were destroyed and rebuilt later.
  
  We have some ancient temples in which the Poosari is actually a family of indigenous Veddhas (neither Tamil nor Sinhalese but tribal Sri Lankan who were in Sri Lanka 16,00 years ago) They preside over in Kataragama/Kathirhama Skanda Temple in the south and Selvasanithy temple in the North and some Skanda temples in the east. But no Namboorthiris who have evolved to speak Tamil again but only Tamil Iyers who run all the agamic temples.
