Shakthi,
u r worrying about Air Travel,
Here in Toronto, 13 deaths, more than 110 suffering.
In British Columbia, scientist mapped the virus, but stil lot to go for remedy.
some hospitals r closed in Toronto.
My friend's wife got gave birth to child on last 20th. By the time in the same hospital 2 patients ( I learned or may be more ) got affected SARS.
My friend told not to visit his place until his family got check ( to ensure they didn't get infection )
I found from CNN news that there is one patient in India from Singaore.
There r lot about this. It is a big news. Here many ppl worried about it. I don't know when it will be time for medicine.

There are reports which indicate that not only pigs, but cows also may be the carriers and that it mightve reached humans from them.
I think that if this goes at this rate, i have to become a veggie soon!

I am told or rather hear
that too many ppl who were suspected SARS are released saying
the tests show negative ...hence Sars not suspected.
I wonder if media is told to play it low so that people are not unnecessarily worked up

A lot of ppl wear mask as they think that it is a lot safer to do so.
However, did you ever ask yourself whether is it effective or not?
Do you know the pore size of the best selling mask N95 nowadays?
The answer is 0.3 micron.
Do you know that corona virus which causes SARS actually size 0.06
micron?
Ha, this means that even the N95 is a large doorway for corona virus to
invade into our body!
Iraqis in order to prevent chemical weapon, cover themselves so well
with protective suits which they need to pump oxygen so that they can
breath.
Well, that type of protective suits can really prevent corona virus to
invade into our body!
In fact, wearing masks and talking at the same time will cause fluid and
saliva to gather on your masks.
This will then create a very good environment for bacteria and virus
growth.
OK, let's understand how corona virus spread. When a SARS patient rub
his nose or cover his mouth with his hand, his hand is full with corona
virus.
When he go to the office and touches the table or door knob, he leaves
the corona virus on it (Corona can survive for only 3 hours outside host
cell).
When a person touches the table or door knob, she will then pick up the
virus on her hand. If she rub her eyes with her hands or take food using
her unwashed hands, corona virus will invade into her body.
The virus will then inject DNA into our cell and start replicate.
Our immune cell - Interferon in our cell will trigger the infected area
to stop replicating. Whereas another immune cell - interleukin will
gather more white blood cell, antibodies to the infected area and fight
with virus.
Once the battle is over, our own body cell will start replicating again
automatically.
This is what drugs cannot do.
Now you know how your immune system work for you and prevent yourself
from getting SARS or whatever viral infection!
Thus take very good care of it and strengthen it through stable emotion,
good rest, good exercise and balanced diet!
Another effective way to prevent one from getting SARS is to wash you
hands frequently.
Virus is protected by an outer layer which is quite fragile.
We can wash our hand with soap and water, the outer layer will break and
virus can't survive.
Please convey the message to your family and friends.

There is some news that ThuLsi cures SARS.
>> TN:
SARS patient's family refuse to take back patient
Locals demand eviction of SARS patient from Kolkata hospital <<
Punnahai-
In both of these cases I think the local people, and the family acted appropriately. In one of the cases the family is asking for a certificate to state that the person is negative. The family may have many children and other members and how can they take the person if they are not sure whether he is negative. That may kill the other members. I am gld they are asking for the certificate. This may not be the right occasion to show "paasam".
In the other case the local people are asking that the patient be transfered to a special hospital where they have facilties to handle SARS cases. This also seems like a very good approach.

SUGGESTED SARS PREVENTION
The fact of the mysterious pneumonia, SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), caused by a so-called mutated strain of corona virus has been widely spread worldwide. What is frightful to this SARS is that it has no known cure at present.
The basic mechanism of viral attack, if we are infected, is that viruses, especially those causing SARS, replicate themselves using our body's DNA genetic replication system. By doing this, our body couldn't function well due to the massive viral replication.
The immune cells in our body can fight off the infected viruses quickly, but viruses are capable of producing some chemical substances to cause our immune cells to die. This new kind of virus belongs to a mutated strain that no new medicine has been discovered yet and existing antibiotics have not been proven to be 100% effective in treating viral infection. So far, the only effective way to fight against or get rid of the virus is by strengthening our body's defense system as what the SARS survivors worldwide have successfully done.
Once these viruses enter our body, there will be a battle between the viruses and our immune system. The viruses couldn't kill all the immune cells in a healthy individual. The stronger our immune system is, the lesser chances that these viruses can inflict viral injury to our body. Therefore, the degree of sickness after a possible SARS infection and the rate of recovery mainly depend on how strong our immune function is.
We cannot avoid the infection unless we avoid close contact with infected individuals and going to infected areas which, in actual situation, cannot be done 100% because of day-to-day job limitations, family relations, compelling personal reasons, etc. However, we can always boost up our immune system/function to the maximum, to make sure that we are "extremely healthy" at least during this critical period.
Stronger immune function could keep the viral damage minimal if we are so unluckily being infected. Also, stronger immune function delays the onset of any detrimental effects from the viral infection. Scientists are now working on tracking the treatment. What we can do now is to make sure we can prevent infection or survive, if so infected, until an effective treatment will be discovered.
The following suggestions aim to strengthen our immune function within a short period of time.
(1) Antioxidant Nutraceuticals:
Antioxidants are chemicals found in foods which exert a great value in strengthening our immune system. We can boost up our immune function by taking a cocktail of antioxidant supplements such as:
§ Vitamin E-1000 IU daily. Alpha-tocopherol is the biological active form of vitamin E. There are of two forms:
d-tocopherol - the natural form (recommended for faster body absorption), and
dl-tocopherol - the synthetic form.
§ Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)-1000 milligram (mg) daily. Instead of taking supplement, we can have 2 pieces of citrus fruits (e.g. orange) a day to get the vitamin C.
§ Beta Carotene-not more than 10000 IU daily
§ Selenium-200 microgram daily
§ Zinc-not more than 500 milligram (mg) daily
§ Lipoic acid-50 mg daily
§ Glutathione-50 mg daily
No adverse effects have been reported from the above suggested supplementation dose.
(2) Green tea daily as beverage because it contains tremendous amount of antioxidant flavonoid, catechins.
(3) Tomatoes, broccoli, fruits and vegetables in red and dark green color have to be part of our daily diet. They carry a huge amount of antioxidant carotenoids, lycopene and carotene.
(4) No intense physical activities/exercises during this critical period! It has been shown that intense exercise will suppress the immune function (related to the upper respiratory infection) even several days following the workout. Instead of intense exercise, light-to-moderate workout would help if you have been training regularly.
(5) Enough carbohydrate foods (e.g. rice, concentrated in starch, etc.) Carbohydrate is the primary food for immune cells . Do some Gatorade or Pocari, if needed, since they are both good sources of carbohydrate.
(6) Enough sleep and stress avoidance are strongly advised! Anxiety, depression and fright will influence our body's stress hormones (e.g. catecholamine and glucocorticoids), thus suppressing our immune system capability.
(7) Mouth-mask which can decrease the chance and gravity/level of possible infection, though not 100% effective in prevention, helps.
(8) Washing hands thoroughly with running water and disinfecting detergent/soap before eating or touching our (or somebody's) critical body parts such as eyes, mouth, nose, ear) should be become a habit.
(9) Avoid going to public places and having exposure to suspected people (even relatives and friends) who cough, sneeze, or are looking sickly or having fever without the proper preventive and protective devices.
(10) Strictly observe and follow quarantine and medical procedures provided by concerned government agencies such as the Health Department.
The above information were based from Mr. Parco Siu's (Mphil, PhD Candidate, West Virginia University School of Medicine) email write-up in which he claimed to be supported by peer-reviewed biomedical literatures.
God bless and we hope and pray that none of us will get infected. Take extra efforts and extreme care as what God wants us to do in telling us to take good care of our body, which He considers to be His temple in us.
